Ok so basically I decided to make them a lot more snake like and less like western dragons looks wise.

Physiology/ design choices

I chose to model them after snakes for the most part, primarily cobras, pythons and sand/pit vipers. By giving them pit organs, a hood, smoother scales like snakes (mostly) and (taken from the sand viper) the whole burying in the sand thing. Which I believe they would use, in combination with the heat sensitive pit organs, in wars (camping out, being unseen and the ability to detect intruders with relative ease). The hoods would be used as a form of intimidation as well, like how cobras use it, and a sign or warning, when partnered with the raising of the barbed tail and tattling.

I also decided to give them thicker wing membrane to help them bury in the sand. This though would effect flight making them not the best distance fliers.

I also decided to give them a throat pouch to carry water, similar to camels, that helps them transport water or use it for long journeys. This pouch overtime would begin to sag and become visible on older individuals.

Social norms and hierarchy

As an arid dwelling species Sandwings live in the desert, the heart of the kingdom being in the center and the lower ranking citizens being closer to the outskirts.

Jewelry, tattoos and other body modifications are not uncommon amongst the citizens of the sand kingdom. Sandwings are very into fashion and art, so adorning themselves with jewels, fabrics and tattoos is a favorable thing.
