In Yoga philosophy, Samadhi is the state of complete absorption where the mind becomes still and the sense of ego dissolves. It is a deep experience of unity, clarity, and inner peace, described by Patanjali as the moment when only pure awareness remains. Though profound, even brief glimpses of Samadhi can bring balance, focus, and calm into everyday life through mindful practice.

Universality is divinity
August, 1959
Sri Jibankrishna discussed:
Thakur (Sri Ramkrishna) says, βBy divine love one forgets the world and even this dearest bodyβ. But by forgetting world why eating is necessary?
What happens in Samadhi (Profound meditation being merged into Supreme Self)? It is withdrawal of self i.e., by self-exertion the mind is taken to such a zone where there is complete elimination of body sense.
But what matters to that? To eliminate body sense is not divinity. When divinity comes? When will this become universal, which means this will spread among the humanities? Universalism is the βtruthβ, and this is the divinity.
When "samadhi" becomes dangerous. When less reactive becomes less effective.
When you feel that sense of calm from βletting go,β how can you tell whether it is giving you more freedom to act or quietly training you to accept less from life?
Many people live in situations where pushing back does not work. When they speak up, they get shut down, judged, or punished in subtle or direct ways. Over time, they learn something very simple that trying to assert yourself only makes things worse.
So they turn inward.
Instead of changing the situation, they try to change themselves. They reduce their expectations. They stop insisting. They loosen their sense of βthis is me, this is what I want.β Practices like Zazen can support this, because they teach you to sit, observe, and not react so strongly.
From the inside, this can feel like relief. The constant tension of wanting things, being blocked, getting angry starts to quiet down. People may call this βletting go of the egoβ or even think they are moving toward something like what is described as enlightenment. But instead of this, something simpler is happening. They are not transcending the self. They are reducing how much they push, because pushing has been too costly.
So the mind adapts so that you donβt expect too much, donβt insist, donβt take things personally, donβt react strongly. This creates calm. But itβs a specific kind of calm: the calm of lower engagement.
The confusion comes when this is mistaken for a higher state, something like βsamadhiβ or deep realization. Instead of this what people are experiencing is more basic, they have found a way to suffer less by wanting and asserting less. And that works up to a point. But the cost is quiet but real. When you reduce how much you want and assert, you also reduce how much you can change your situation. You become less reactive, but also less effective in shaping what happens around you.
So the trade-off looks like less inner conflict, but also less outer influence. Thatβs why this is not a clean solution. It solves one problem by shrinking the system that was having the problem. And this leaves you with only a few directions. You can push and face conflict, you can hold everything inside and stay tense, or you can step back and disengage more and more. None of these are perfect. They are different ways of handling the same pressure. But certainly the relief of letting go of expectations, no matter how great, is not samadhi

~ Guru Ramana II-XI ~
Sri Ramana Maharshi ~ "Conscious of Awareness"
Conscious of Awareness describes the state of being aware that you are awareβa higher-level, mindful understanding of your own thoughts, feelings, and surroundings, often deepened through practices like meditation, differentiating it from simple consciousness (being awake) by adding focused attention and self-reflection.
It's nothing new. People have been weaseling their way into blissful states like samadhi for years (see Ramakrishna).
I'm high right now.
