Stepping up

It was hot today, Sam just sat on the hard floor. he didn’t know what he thought it would be like in the cage, but this wasn’t it. some times it was cold and other times it was hot, some times there was a fire that would consume him and sometimes he would freeze to death. There weren’t any walls or boundaries that he had found. so he kept walking, pretending he could outrun the fire or the cold. but he could never outrun Michael.

Michael would show up at the worst of times and just tease Sam, then taunt him and torture him until he got bored and went to go find Adam. Sam didn’t know where Lucifer was, he didn’t care really, and he wanted to find Adam, but he was sure that this place just went on forever and that finding anyone while he wasn’t and Angel was impossible.

Sam sat on the hot floor and saw a figure in the distance, it was weird, Michael always just popped up when he wanted to make Sams life even worse which was past the point of measurement. Sam stared at the figure, and Sam thought it might have been an idea of Michael’s the figure looked like Dean and Sam could only repeat to himself why he did this, he saved the world, he did this to save the world and anything this fake Dean said was unimportant. because the real Dean, his Dean told him that he was proud of Sam. So sam kept repeating that over and over.

“Dean is proud of me. Dean loves me. Dean is proud of me. Dean loves me.” Sam repeated over and over when he saw that it wasn’t Dean.

“ADAM!” Sam yelled, he was sure this was a trick of Michael’s it probably wasn’t Adam, this place was too vast for them to meet up.

“Sam? Sam is that you, for real?” the figure started running and then fell into Sam’s arms. “Sam please tell me you are real, that you aren’t just a trick of Michael’s.”

Sam shook his head, he wasn’t happy, there was a reason they found each other, they shouldn’t have found each other, there was something wrong here.

“Adam how did you get here? why did we find each other?” Sam asked he hugged Adam but then he heard an Angel appeare behind them.

“Sam, don’t let him hurt me please.” Adam asked, this was not the kid Sam knew when they were topside, this kid, he was battered and had been forced through unspeakable things and Sam didn’t know how to deal with it.

“Sam can’t save you.” Michael said “he tried to save the world and that didn’t work. he relys on his big brother to protect him, why do you think he will be able to help you?”

“I’ll protect you Adam.” Sam said and then Michael laughed. his hands lit up with fiery Grace and Sam just wrapped himself around Adam the best he could.

“this is the best you can do?” Michael asked and he started throwing Grace at the brothers.

“shhh it’s ok Adam, its ok because I will protect you ok Adam, I am gonna help you.”

Adam just sat there in Sam’s arms waiting for Michael to leave, but he didn’t. Sam was sure this was the longest he went without getting bored.

“Sam why isn’t he leaving?” Adam asked.

“i don’t know Adam, i don’t know.” Sam’s could feel every hit but he knew that Adam was going to be safe, Adam was safe, and that was all that was important, Adam.

“Michael stop.” someone said and the hits stopped falling and Sam wished they would continue, now all he had to concentrate on what the pain, the fire had ripped through his back leaving blackened gashes.

“this stops now, we battle here and now, and for eternity, you leave the two boys alone.” Sam realised it was Lucifer and he sighed a bit but then winced in pain.

“Sam what can i do to help?” Adam asked while the angels started to fight. Sam couldn't form words so he just pulled the younger boy closer to him.
