The Review:  All Is Lost is an "against the odds" film about one man's struggles to stay alive at sea. If Sandra Bullock is a shoe-in for an Oscar Nomination for Gravity, than Robert Redford is her male counterpart deserving similar accolades.  In his best role since The Natural, Redford dazzles as a senior sailing alone facing one hardship after another. Redford uses his entire repertoire of acting skills including his aging body to make All Is Lost fantastically believable.  If you loved Gravity then see All Is Lost; it's stressful and amazing. Sidebar:  An all out fight almost broke out during this film.  I was sitting in the back row with two 20 something year old guys sitting in front of me off to my left. The film begins with a Robert Redford narration reading a letter he has written to his family claiming all is lost and that he has made a bunch of stupid mistakes to get to where he is, near death, and then  finally apologizing to his family for dying. Needless to say this scene is quite significant to the film.  During this narration 12 friends/relatives of a foreign variety march in and sit about 5 rows down from me taking up the entire row.  These 12 folks proceed to  stand and de-robe for 5 minutes, then play musical chairs with one another for the next 7.  When they finally settle in, one of the 12 decides to make a phone call as another starts texting.  This puts the two 20 somethings in front of me over the edge and one of them shouts out at the top of his lungs "Get off the fucking phone!!! Sit down in your fucking chair!!! And watch the fucking movie!"  This sends the posse of 12 into a frenzy and me into a panic as I think a full out brawl is about to take place during a one man acted movie; if you can believe it (think Castaway, but on a boat). Not 20 minutes later following a barrage of texts, the posse of 12 gets up wastes 7 minutes re-robing and marches out stating very loudly "this movie sucks, what's it supposed to be about anyway", never to return.
