Claire

Claire works at/is in charge of Jurassic World. In this version, she and Owen are close friends who work together. They don’t have any history or tension, they’re just friends. She’s an attentive aunt who is looking forward to spending some time with her nephews.

She’s not dressed in the heels and sterile outfit, she’s wearing casual clothes (like jeans, shirt, jacket) and sneakers because she’s expecting to spend the day with her nephews, but things get in the way.

Owen

Owen is a raptor handler who works with the raptors. He trains them, but not in order to control them, but to make sure they’re stimulated and for their welfare (like modern zoos do). He’s not their ‘alpha’; he understands they are powerful predators that should be respected.

Zach

Claire’s nephew and Gray’s older brother. He doesn’t really care about dinosaurs, but he is glad to be away from things at home/school and all the stress. He’s a little withdrawn and quiet, but he’s not an asshole or a flirt. He’s just tired.

Gray

Claire’s other nephew and Zach’s younger brother. He’s a dinosaur enthusiast who is excited to visit Jurassic World and spend time with his aunt and brother. He's not worried about monsters or his parents divorcing or any of that shit. He does try and get his brother to engage with him more, and eventually they do start having fun right before things go south

Dr. Wu

Wu is a geneticist with a god complex. Nothing much has changed there.

We’re getting rid of Vic Hoskins and any attempts for the raptors to be trained and sold as weapons, because even though that would make money, it would be a legal nightmare (it’s not exactly subtle when a dinosaur is sent into battle, and it’s going to be obvious who provided the raptors. Jurassic World would be charged with so many war crimes).

Zara, Claire’s assistant that does a terrible job at looking after two kids, is also gone. She offers nothing to the plot and in this version, Claire is actually planning to spend time with her nephews.

Masrani is also gone, because when you actually look at it, he offers nothing to the plot other than being the one who funded the Indominous and crashing the helicopter.

We’re also getting rid of Zach and Gray’s parents and the drama around whether or not they’re going to divorce, because that’s unnecessary drama that doesn’t add anything of value.

Now, on to the plot…

Wu was given permission and funding to research hybrid genetics and experiment with it because they need to find ways to stabilise the incomplete dinosaur genomes of species they don’t have the whole DNA sequence (it’s rare to find fossilised mosquitos and fossils have no DNA traces) and they don't want a repeat of Jurassic Park. So, for example, instead of filling out the rest of an Allosaurus genome with sequences from frogs, they use the stable genomes of similar (or similar enough) dinosaurs like the T-Rex and Carnotaurus. That way they have viable genomes and don't waist hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars on creating non-viable specimens. It also allows them to remove any defaults in their genes (like Dilophosaurus’s genetic predisposition for malformed teeth that were mistaken for venom sacks until recently). This would also explain why the Velociraptors are so big—they used genetic sequences from Utahraptors and other raptor DNA to stabilise the sequence.

However, Wu and his god complex get in the way. He wants to make the ultimate predator. So he creates the Indominous Rex.

Realising that the Indominous is dangerous, they moved her and her clone/sister into the isolation enclosure when they were young (and the only access point that is bigger than a human is a loading bay that would fit a truck/crate for transport). They kept her alive because she was expensive to make and at the very least she could serve as a control for the genome hybridity experiment. But when she kills her sister, Claire and others with a brain advocate for Indominous to be terminated. But Wu being Wu, weaselled his way out of it (like he did when he put Scorpius in stasis rather than terminating it). Wu was permitted to keep Indominous, but only if she remains in the isolated enclosure and if anything happens, she is to be terminated immediately. Indominous Rex was not meant to be an exhibit.

At some point, Indominous must have overheard staff talking about terminating her, because she starts planning to escape—she wants to escape because she’s scared of dying. She camouflages herself and scratches up the walls to fake getting out of the enclosure.

The story starts with the boys on the ferry on their way to the island. Claire is waiting for them when she gets a call from the security team at the isolated enclosure. They tell her they can't find the dinosaur. Terrified by those words, Claire says she'll be up there soon and calls Owen - her friend, coworker, and the one she trusts to figure this out since he works with the raptors (who are intelligent and always trying to escape). She tells him what the security have told her and asks if he can go check it out since he knows more about this stuff than her. She tells him that she’ll be right there as soon as her nephews get there. He says no worries, finishes up his raptor training and drives up to the isolated enclosure (in the four-wheel drive he later hides under—explaining why the Indominous wasn’t able to detect his thermal signature as the heat reading would be thrown off by the heat of the car that had recently been driven).

Zach and Gray arrive and Claire greets them. She tells them she's got something that she needs to deal with but she'll catch up with them. She gives them passes, tells them to be good and text her, and she'll only be an hour at most. They think this is great—after all, they’re kids running free at dinosaur Disneyland with no adult supervision!

Owen goes to the enclosure and the security catch him up on everything. They take him into the observation room and they look for the Indominous but can’t see her. They run the thermal scan of the enclosure but her heat signature doesn’t show up. Owen notices the scratch marks on the walls. Security try to trace the tracker that is inserted in the Indominous’s back but there’s no signal. Owen voices his doubts; he points out that the tracker isn't registering that the Indominous is in the pen but she's not not in the pen either—there’s no tracker signal registering as her being outside of the enclosure. And while the scratches look like she's climbed out, there are no tracks outside the enclosure that suggest she's gotten out. He tells security to get Asset Containment Unit (ACU) on standby and lets out a heavy sigh as he realises he needs to take a closer look to see if she’s actually made it out.

Meanwhile, there are trucks and transports ready to try and get the Indomious out of the enclosure to be terminated/transported somewhere else since she’s becoming too dangerous. But the only way to get a dinosaur out of a pen is to bait them into the crate (which is not going to work on the Indominous since she’s not trained and is distrustful) or to airlift them out with a crane or a helicopter (which is also not going to work, because she’s too large and would thrash about. And even if sedated, they don't know how fast her body will metabolise the sedative). So they're standing nearby trying to work out how they’re going to do this, and the workers are told to just get things ready while they plan. So they follow orders and get the truck/crate ready. In doing so, they unbolt the loading doors.

Owen goes into the enclosure to check for any signs that the Indominous has actually made it out. The security guard escorting him says, “The walls are forty feet high. Do you really think it climbed out?”

“That depends,” Owen says as he approaches the scratched up wall.

“Depends on what?”

“On what kind of dinosaur did they cook up in that lab?” He checks out the scratch marks, but something seems off; they’re smooth, there’s no point at which her claws had dug into the wall in order for her to get a grip and climb.

Just then, the signal for the tracker comes back online. The radio crackles as a few broken words get through. “…in the closure… in there… with you…”

“Run!” Owen shouts as he and the security guard pivot and sprint back to the security door they came through, the Indominous hot on their heels. As they sprint through the door, the Indominous doesn’t slow and smashes through the unbolted loading doors, breaking the wall in order to fit. Owen dives under the car, hoping the Indominous won’t find him. He watches as the Indominous throws aside the other vehicles and kills the security guard. Acting quick, he pulls out a pocket knife and cuts the fuel line, covering himself in gasoline to obscure his scent, and waits.

The Indominous leaves and Owen tries to catch his breath. A minute later, Claire arrives to find a massacre. Owen crawls out from under the car, gets into her car and catches her up as Claire calls it in. She orders the staff to shut down everything up north and move guests down south or into shelters (because in this version they're not stupid and have shelters in case of emergencies – not just dinosaurs out of containment but dangerous weather like hurricanes).

(On a side note, I hate the Gyrosphere operator who says "I just work here", because he is literally only there because the actor – Matty Cardarople – has made a career of showing up in movies and shows and playing a lazy teen who doesn’t know anything. But Jurassic World is Disney with dinosaurs, and Disney staff go through a FUCK TON of training, so it only makes sense that Jurassic World staff would too.)

So, Indominous is out of her enclosure and rampaging; not killing for fun but killing because she's scared of being killed. And since the mountain/volcano is north, the only place she has to go on the island is south, unfortunately, towards people.

Everything up north goes into lockdown, but Zach and Gray are out having fun in the gyrospheres. Suddenly they get knocked about by a startled ankylosaurus. The gyrosphere’s calibration is thrown off and they end up upside down. Gray notices the Indominous’s reflection in the glass, but the Indominous doesn’t notice them at first. Claire is calling them the whole time trying to find out where they are and tell them to get to a shelter. Suddenly, Zach’s phone lights up again and vibrates against the glass. This catches the Indominous’s attention. They manage to wrangle their way out of the harnesses as the Indominous tries to break the glass. They get out, but Zach doesn’t have time to grab his phone. He grabs Gray’s arm and they run. The Indominous takes chase. They boys have to climb through enclosures (like Alan, Tim and Lex did in Jurassic Park)—they don’t go to the old buildings or hotwire a car (because it’s not actually possible to do it the way that they say they do it, and also the previous argument about the history of the park and the buildings not just being left in ruin. At the very least, they would have been scavenged and picked clean, there wouldn’t be cars and batteries).

Claire and Owen track where the boys’ passes were last used and find the smashed gyrosphere. Claire picks up the phone inside of it. “It’s Zach’s phone.”

They start tracking the boys while the Asset Containment Unit moves in to contain the Indominous (and fail to contain her, leading to their deaths).

There's no helicopter crash into the aviary, but I guess that the pterosaurs have to get out somehow, so the Indominous, in a frenzy after the encounter with the ACU team, smashes through the aviary, hoping to find shelter of some kind, but ends up being attacked by pterosaurs too.

(We are not doing the main street pterosaur attack, because that was ridiculous—it was hard to take it seriously as a vicious attack. Although we do love Jimmy Buffet's cameo as Margarita Guy.)

At this point, the whole park goes into lockdown and guests are ushered into the shelters. They await confirmation that the asset has been contained and they can come out or that it's beyond containment and they use tunnels (confirmed to exist in Camp Cretaceous) to move people to the south dock to evacuate the island. When they realise that they can't contain Indominous, Claire gives the order to evacuate the park.

Claire and Owen finally catch up with Zach and Gray. Claire tells them that they have to get off the island, but Owen hesitates. He begs Claire to let him get the raptors, not to use them as weapons but because if Jurassic World is going to fall, then it would be cruel to leave them trapped in the enclosure; they at least deserve the chance to live. Claire agrees and they go and let the raptors out.

The raptors seem to escort them south, partly out of curiosity and partly because they're familiar with Owen. They're not following orders or training, just following instincts as pack animals. However, when they get to main street, their vehicle gets attacked by the Indominous. This leads to the fight on main street, the raptors fighting a losing battle against the Indominous. Then Claire has an idea—a terrible idea, but they’re desperate. She grabs a radio and radios in to the control room and gives the order. “Open Pen Eight.”

She backs up from the large reinforced steel doors (knowing she can’t outrun the Rex once she’s out), and as she backs up down the concrete corridors, she ignites the flare she’s holding on to, using the distance to get a head start and leading Rexy to the Indominous.

Rexy, Blue and the Indominous fight and just as all hope seems lost, they manage to push the Indominous over the barrier of the Mosasaurus Lagoon. Blood hits the water, dispersing and disappearing into the dark depths. The Indominous scrambles slightly, regaining her footing and pulling herself away from the edge of the Lagoon. But not fast enough. The Mosasaurus launches itself out of the water, snapping its jaws shut around the Indominous’ torso and dragging it down into the depths of the Lagoon.

In the end, the Indominous is not the villain. Wu is. The Indominous Rex was just the science experiment that he messed up because of his god complex. The Indominous was just trying to survive. Unfortunately, when it comes to it, they just have to let the dinosaurs sort out the natural order of things.

The story ends as Claire, Owen, Zach, Gray and the last of the staff from the control room get off the island. Claire holds her nephews who have passed out from exhaustion.

Other notes:

There is no romance between Owen and Claire. If there has to be a romantic subplot then lit it be a subtle slow burn as their friendship turns into something more. But it’s subtle and very far in the background. After all, running for your lives from dinosaurs is not the time for this.

Also, there is no petting zoo/baby dinosaur rides, because that’s so fucked. There is no way any zoo or park that cares about animal welfare would ever allow that. Not to mention how many lawsuits there probably are from dinosaurs biting small children. The closest thing they'd have would be interactions with more docile, small herbivores. Sort of like socialisation—like you do with dogs—but definitely no rides.
