Someone sent me the screencap of the fan saying that Cait admitted at the Highlanders 2 convention that she said Sam’s name during a sex scene. I’ve whited out part of this fan’s user name, and so I will refer to her as “Pep” here.

So thanks for debunking this gem1886.

A well known ES (or former ES, not sure, but one who has been quite unbiased lately) also debunked it. Someone sent me a screencap of her debunking this.

Therefore we have at least two fans (gem1886 and uselesstat) publicly stating that Cait never said this. And a third party saying other fans who attended Highlanders 2 have also denied that Cait said it.

Maybe Pep misunderstood what Cait said or maybe she stretched the truth. Regardless, I’m glad that others are willing to speak up and say this never happened.

[NOTE: Shortly after this was posted, I learned that there was a TRANSCRIPT of the Q & A’s from a verra reliable source The Outlander Cast Blog (OCB). It wasn’t a surprise that that question and the answer were nowhere to be found in the transcript.]

Some people swear they heard Cait say Sam’s name. Others (such as myself) didn’t hear it no matter how many times we played the video. When noises are ambiguous, it is easy to hear what we want to hear. “Pareidolia” is the human tendency to find familiar patterns in ambiguous visual or auditory stimuli. So that is one explanation for some fans hearing Cait say Sam’s name and some fans not hearing it. (Or maybe some fans have better audio equipment or better hearing than others. Who knows?)

It is always possible Cait did say it. However, if it happened it wouldn’t mean that she was having an affair with Sam, just that she had a natural slip between the name of the character of Jamie and the name of the actor right in front of her. As someone pointed out to me Cait called Ned Gowan “Bill” once by accident in a blooper. But then again it was a blooper that didn’t make it into the final cut.

It is hard for me to believe that a sound editor would have left Cait saying Sam’s name in the final cut. I understand that sound editors have very sensitive audio equipment and could easily erase the sound if they heard it. So if the sound editor didn’t catch it, did it really happen? My tendency is to say it didn’t but each person is free to interpret what they heard or didn’t hear for themselves.

ADDENDUM 05.03.19: This saga continued with Pep changing her story about the panel when no one would corroborate it. She said it happened at the signing table and not at the panel (see POST). To my knowledge no one ever came forward and corroborated her changed signing table story. Both “sides” assumed Pep made it up or misheard something.

I did a bit of liveblogging-in-one-post today, so it got quite long.. I tagged it as “long post” so it doesn’t bother you on your dash;)

“We already have the best Winchester” - Hmm I’m getting whiplash from how many times one of them has been called “the best”. S1 it was “John is the best hunter ever” and we knew it was a friggin’ lie. It took him over twenty years to even get face to face with YED while it took Sam and Dean a few months to stop a fucking Apocalypse!:P I think we’ve already established that Bobby was the best hunter^^ Moving on>>

(Also I’m kind of waiting for the BMoL to capture Cas somehow (and maybe Crowley?) and other supernatural beings to experiment on them so we have a) the supernatural beings teaming up against a common enemy and b) Sam and Dean working from the inside to get them out. This storyline does make for a lot of angst, since in this scenario, the gap between Mary and her sons would get even wider and the blood-vs-found family would reach its peak.. also Cas would get hurt but if he gets cuddles after, it would be worth it:P)

Yeah that’s very healthy Dean. Alcohol and Violence as coping mechanisms. You’d better take Jody up on her offer. Or call Cas. But I do like it that/if Sam and Dean have finally reached a point where they are on the same page and Dean doesn’t feel like he has to put up a front for his little brother. You talk to each other boys!

And why is there always a best friend/boyfriend or whatever saying “I won’t let any of you die ?”
