i really will be so disappointed if the years of stalking is all there is to past dm because that isn't the chase. the chase isn't interesting because armand is stalking daniel, it's interesting because armand is stalking daniel and daniel knows it. he knows there is a monster stalking him, and he still wants to talk with that monster, still blushes when he makes that monster laugh, still wakes up crying when that monster stops stalking him. you can't replace that with stalking that daniel doesn't know about. hell, we don't even see him actually react to it.
Thinking about present day armand and daniel tentatively working out their sleeping arrangements. armand seeing daniel's pathetic sleeping bag closet set up. daniel seeing how armand's expression goes blank and suddenly feeling so self conscious but before he can get defensive armand says "I have been neglecting to care for you; let me find you something more suitable" and the very next day they receive a huge package which armand effortlessly picks up before hesitantly asking if daniel would be fine with sleeping in armand's room and it makes daniel's heart squeeze to realise that armand is also self conscious and unmoored in this new delicate dance that they've been swept up in so ofc he says yes and they haul the package to armand's, no, their bedroom now and daniel wonders if the coffin is big enough for both of them to squeeze into it together and armand smiles so shyly and so sweetly as daniel opens the package and finds that armand had ordered him an XL dog crate

it is terrifying that bear only sought to "alter" his wish rather than cancelling it but what is even more terrifying is that he wouldn't even have called the number had nikki not inconvenienced him. if she did not act in such extreme ways bear wouldn't even have a problem. which is sooooo sooooo terrifying because he was completely fine living and being "loved" by nikki who he knew wasn't the real her. he claimed to love her, but even when she started acting like a totally different person it was water off a duck's back for him. he DIDN'T CARE whether it was the real nikki or an entirely different person.
even when she begs him to kill her, he does not feel even a shred of pity for her; he only worries "is being with me that bad".
the only reason he tries to change anything is because her behavior started to scare him FREAK him out. had she acted in a meeker way, bear would've lived with her HIS WHOLE LIFE knowing she ISN'T the real nikki NOT GIVING A FUCK about what she would've wanted. PERIOD.
the more i sit with it the more i realise that the title of the movie did not refer to nikki's obsession with bear but rather his obsession with her. because i know fs that what he felt for her definitely wasn't love.

Iām super interested in how theyād handle the courtship aspect if we get past DM. So far, in all of Armandās dynamics, even with modern-day Daniel, heās been the one chasing, wooing, confessing, trying to impress the other person, getting easily charmed by scraps of attention, making romantic gestures, being rejected, left hanging, and trying to open up only to be used or spat at.
So itād be fun to finally have that dynamic be somewhat reversed. Like, have Armand have no interest in impressing or wooing young Daniel at first, just wanting to scare him or use him for entertainment, while Daniel is the one trying to impress him, paying attention to him, wooing him, and finding reasons to keep him around. Even if Armand is still the chaser in the literal sense, romantically he could finally be the one getting chased.
I think that could be really interesting for him because Armand is genuinely a romantic and a loverboy. He likes courting people and taking care of them; he doesnāt see it as a chore or a punishment to get what he wants. But heās also someone who just wants to be treasured and has spent so much of his life being made to feel like a bother. Heās never really had the freedom of not having to impress someone or earn their affection upfront. Iād love to see what happens when he realizes someone is genuinely trying to win him over simply because they like him, with no ulterior motive. To let him be the distant and resistant one for once, and eventually start reciprocating because, for once, someone is making him feel wanted without him having to beg for it.
Then, after he has been successfully wooed, he can unleash all of that romance on Daniel and absolutely win the Courtship Olympics because heās just so extra about it. He finally has the confidence that those gestures are appreciated and, even better, reciprocated.

āWould you call it rage, then?ā Daniel baited, recalling Armandās recent words.
Armand hesitated, calculating.
āYes,ā he said.
Daniel picked up his pen and wrote in all caps the word āRage,ā while saying it out loud. He then underlined it three times.
āJust trying to be thorough,ā Daniel said shrugging.
āSo, you threatened to eat meā¦ shot me up with heroine, then left me at a drug den.ā
Armand blinked.
āYes,ā he said again.
Daniel wrote ādrug den,ā underneath the word rage. He then tilted his head.
āThatās where my story blacks outā¦ā he said. āQuite literally, so at this point Iāll hand the metaphorical torch to you.ā he smiled once more: āAnd then what?ā

Of course you know that heās the only person that can do it, you know that he can do it, and you know thatās thereās no way heās gonna go without a fight.
You are in charge of the team that has to chase him down after he ran, you are probably the last person from earth he will ever hear from again so as he begs for mercy, he yells your name his voice breaking as he slowly fade out of consciousness, all you can do for him is to tell him that you believe in him, and that heāll do great.
And he calls for you, and his words start to slur and he calls, and he reaches for you and you canāt help him, you canāt save him, all you can do is believe in him.
