GOD memorize your lines from the hot rock (1999) is so fucking immaculate.................. the way they cut each other off in the verses............... the stilted monotone way carrie delivers hers contrasted with corin’s voice breaking & trembling................... obviously the Infamous Corin Tucker Blunt Force Shout Singing is always phenomenal and i love it dearly but in this song she like. tempers it and alternates her usual chest placement with that like floaty angsty head placement and even tho its a softer sound she still makes it break & fucks it up around the edges and communicates SO MUCH GODDAMN EMOTION with just her inflection alone (this woman could sing a phonebook and make it sound like the most complex & nuanced emotional process just with the way she communicates shit thru her literal voice regardless even of what words are being sung i just. i love what she does with her vocals so. much.) AND THE GUITARS. the dissonant anemic lil carrie riff repeating under corin’s low end notes joining in those weird, jarringly dissonant harmonies and then a consonant harmony that cuts the tension & they just COME TOGETHER and it REPEATS & its tension and relief & tension and relief that’s the whole SONG (and, really, in a way, the core appeal of the band, i think) its that juxtaposition and alternating of harsh and pretty & the raw and visceral against the complex and fine and. its PERFECT.
