Rural Development Foundation Global @rdf_global Blog - Day 1: We arrived at Osmani International Airport and headed out straight into the field as we didn’t want to waste the day. A mega jam packed day saw us visit Saleh Pur and Baish Tilla in Sylhet, areas close to the airport to check out the water projects. Bangladesh is still the country with the largest proportion of people exposed to arsenic contamination in the world and now more than ever access to safe water is critical to the health of families in Bangladesh. At Piror Bazar we checked out the home buikd projects and met Rubina, who supports her mother and a large family, including her husband who is unwell and struggles to support her despite his best efforts. She makes clothes to make ends meet and her sewing machine has started to play up. A quick appeal raised money for RDF to purchase her a brand new one. The target was reached in under fifteen minutes. One project I’ve been really excited about is the weekly soup kitchen and we made our way to the Borja Tea State to meet residents who live and work in the tea gardens. Many are lowly paid labourers and there are many social issues within their communities such as lack of access to education, health and domestic violence. Roughly 150 people turned up and service was completed in twenty minutes. It’s been a non stop day straight from the airport- Now for some sleep. #rdf10 #ruraldevelopmentfoundation #thewanderinglondoner (at Sylhet) https://www.instagram.com/p/CokrWobSy8X/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
