Miyan Bayezid Baz Bahadur was the last Sultan of Malwa (present-day Madhya Pradesh). He is most famous for his paramour with Rupmati, a Hindu singer. They are often depicted riding horses together side by side, or racing. Emperor Akbar of the Mughal Empire decided to take Malwa and it's capital, Mandu, to extend his empire, and the small Sultanate was easily taken. When Rupmati was captured, she poisoned herself. Baz Bahadur managed to escape and was a fugitive in a number of courts until 1570, 8 years after the siege at Mandu, where he joined in the service of Akbar.
