I went for my first run today.
I feel really proud of myself. I'm following the runmeter program, so it was half running/half walking, but that was enough for a start.
What I didn't like is the fact that even though I left the house at only 5h30, it was as dark as in the middle of the night. So, I was running alone on the dark and it felt like I was in the first 5 minutes of a supernatural episode.
Can't wait to do it again! Hopefully I'll finish this, unlike I did with insanity.
Not sure when Runmeter updated their online view of run reports, but they are sexy, fancy AND informative.
Today's Fun Run | App Rant
Today I just wanted to go running and have a good time. I've been doing Body For Life, which is really making me exhausted, so I knew I wasn't going to be able to do a 5k till probably Monday. So, what I did was run 3k in one direction on the trail, then walk 2k back. For the last 1K, I decided to run as fast as I could for that K. My average time per kilometer is about 7:20 when I'm trying to go far. On this speed kilometer I was able to pull 6:20, but I was very tired when it was over! All in all, it was a LOT of fun going faster and I can't wait till I can do that speed all the time!
The 3k I tracked with Endomondo, which worked pretty well. On the 1k speed run I used Nike+. Both apps work about the same, Nike+ seems to have more features. However, one big disadvantage for me is that the website doesn't work on my iPad since it's littered with Flash. Come on Nike, get with the times! Flash is dead!!!
I may go back to just using Runmeter instead. These "website backed" running Apps are kind of a pain in the butt anyway. Runmeter runs entirely on the phone with no webpage required, then exports files I can upload to Endomondo or Daily Mile if I want.

Tapped-In iPhone: More Fitness Apps
Spring is right around the corner! Time to get in shape? Here are our top 3 favorite fitness apps to get you motivated:â¨
Strava Run is a clean and simple app that packs a lot of motivation! Just set up an account, push the play button and start running! For each new run, the app tracks your time, distance and pace. When youâre done, your results are saved to your feed... and added to your profile stats. The appâs âsegmentsâ feature helps motivate you by checking out running routes created by other app users. Check out how well they did, and then challenge yourself to do better. Strava also has a version of this app for cyclists. For a free app, you surely canât go wrong with Strava Run.
Runmeter, Cyclemeter and Walkmeter are by the same developer and do the same thing. So pick your poison! When youâre ready for a workout, create a route and choose an activity. Whatâs great is that you can totally customize the stopwatch feature. By default, it tracks the basics like your time, distance and pace... but you can swap these out to track something else while youâre on the move, like elevation, fastest pace, heart-rate and more! We should mention to track heart rate, youâll need to purchase the âWahoo Fitness A.N.T. Plus Systemâ. The app also maps youâre routes and logs your workouts on the built-in calendar. Tap an entry to view all your stats, maps and graphs. for 3 bucks RunMeter, CycleMeter and WalkMeter have alot to offer someone determined to get in shape.
And finally, for those looking to burn off 4 seasons of Battlestar Galactica, check out Zombies, Run!...The fitness app that turns your workout into a post-apocalyptic zombie adventure! How?... It tells a story and each time you go for a run, another part of the story unfolds... The sound effects alone will definitely get your heart pumping! The app also motivates you by setting goals... arrive at checkpoints to collect supplies like food, batteries and other zombie invasion essentials! For a whopping 8 bucks, Zombies, Run! might not be for all-- but itâs one of the most original ideas for a fitness app weâve seen, with the promise of story-line updates. If the thought of zombies eating your brains doesnât get you off your butt... we donât know what else will!
