If the main difference between ruby and sapphire is color (sapphire has a huge variety of colors), then how will red sapphire differ from ruby? And how will this affect the character's design and rank in the homeworld?
I made a blue ruby a while ago, they were considered defective however a red sapphire would be accepted as a regular sapphire, no questions asked.

Ruby's problem is that she's only good against an opponent in hand to hand if they severely underestimate her or if she gets the drop on them.

Do you think Star gems have similar or slightly higher ranking than their normal counterparts? Like a star Ruby would be higher than a normal Ruby
I believe that star gems do not change a gems hierarchy. They may look different but it does not change their abilities. Star gems just stand out and have stars on their bodies that distinguishes them from other gems. They act more like “shiny Pokémon” on homeworld. A morganite would constantly be bragging about owning a star ruby.
I feel like, and this is just my opinion, there wasn’t a uniform change between Eras, I simply think Gems can just have different uniforms. For example: while Rubies usually have the standard homeworld uniform and shorts, we can see Doc and Navy wearing different uniforms, and in Together Alone we see two background Rubies wearing the same uniform as the ones that were assigned to guard Sapphire in the answer. From what I’ve seen, it seems like the only Gems to have a consistent uniform are Quartz Gems imo.
Ya you may be right, I just find it strange that the rubies had no diamond insignia on their outfits in the answer. Maybe they don't have to wear one if they're assigned to a high class gem and not a diamond.
