The video-translation I'm using as basis is from Valkyrii yt channel.

Relic Labyrinth, Magift (Spelldrive), Mystic Mortar and Seeker's Gathering. As announced by Godrina Mezher, Director of the Ministry of Magic's Education Bureau (rumored to be Twst!Godmother from Cinderella).

Here are the explanation of each game based on the training weeks the NRC boys participated:

[Relic Labyrinth] (episode 8-7 to 8-9)

As you remember, RL is the training that featured Malleus, Silver, Kalim and Ortho. My observation is that these were in-game demonstrations for the sake of the Player (us) to understand each event. As demonstrated, the boys who trained in a event won't necessarily be chosen for that one in specific (or at least there's higher possibility they use other boys for different outcomes). Just saying this for clarification!

In the present, the chosen players for NRC are: Azul, Jamil (appeared in Seeker's Gathering), Lilia and Ruggie (appeared in Mystic Mortar).

For RSA: Minajael and Rielle. (I'll make a separate post on the Named NPCs in this event, but have this video from Valkyrii for the others names in the meantime)

Ortho states it's been five years since RL was last held and Crowley explains that it's because it's very complex to prepare.

Stealing or obstructing the opp team's magic stone while in transport to the pedestal is ok but excessively dangerous behavior/magic is prohibited. Malleus comments that causing severe injuries in the op's could lead to disqualification.

Brute force alone can't solve it, it requires both offense and defense. Maps of the labyrinth are distributed for the players.

[Magift] (episode 8-4 to 8-6)

The NRC training we watched featured Cater, Floyd, Idia and Sebek. We're updated in the rules of magift but for the benefit of the post, I'll be using the most interesting screenshots and summarizing the discussion:

"Magift is played 7 against 7. Carrying the disk, attacking, defending - it's all fundamentally done with magic. It's a penalty if you touch the disk with your hands or let it fall to the ground. Depends on formation but about half of players stay on their brooms.

You score points by leading the disk into the enemy's goal. The large circle is 1 point, the small circle is 3 points. Long-range shots are acceptable.

The disks are made of magic-absorbing material, so they'll lose speed immediately unless you keep applying magic to them continuously.

Once the disk leaves your hand, controlling it with magic becomes difficult, making it easy for the enemy to intercept. On the other hand, if you hold onto it for too long, the enemy will swarm you and beat you.

Constantly applying magic to the disk is exhausting, Idia's impression is that it's best to pass it on quickly to someone else.

Intentionally aiming an attack spell at a player is forbidden but the rules allow for disk-stealing with magic or use of interference spells on the offense. Sometimes your magic can hit an opponent..."

The positions that are mentioned in the training:

"Back" - takes position in the middle of the field to fight for the disk. Floyd (whom this spot is assigned) mentions that they're supposed to be on the defense and Cater completes that Backs are players who "break the enemy's spirit who are trying to invade".

"Standoff" - very important position (Idia is assigned to it due to being a dorm leader). The player stays on the rear, "watching from above" on the broom.

"Frontline role" - player runs on the field, without broom (Sebek's position). I'll assume it's the same case for "Backline" until future clarification.

"Forward" - stands in front of the goal and aims to score points.

"Hooker" - attacks while on a broom but, in Cater's case, he acted as a link between the front and back lines.

[Mystic Mortar] (episode 8-10 to 8-12)

Originally featured Trey, Lilia and Ruggie. 7 people event.

The instruction sheets don't have diagrams or images of the ingredients, so the tricky part is differentiating from two (or more) possible similar things or poisonous ones.

But the ingredients used in the competition are things that even students saw once in a textbook or class. Referencing material or communication devices are strictly forbidden.

Then again, excessive behavior while stealing is forbidden and it's recommended that players don't get caught up in stealing ingredients (possibly bc chances are the opp team mistook a ingredient and now it's your mistake too).

[Seeker's Gathering] (episode 8-16 to 8-18)

Featured Azul, Jamil and Vil. Also 7 people event.

I'm... kinda intrigued why Sam says "in this event". But maybe he's just being dramatic and it is the purpose of SG that you get into contact with magical beasts and I was trying to read too much into it. Well, anyway.

SG can lead to possible injuries or contact with poison, depending on the beast. Hurting the magical beast is a instant disqualification but also the biggest difficulty of this event.

Players are given a bag with equipment and a file with information on the magical beast. Vil participated in the same event last year.

The remaining event participants are Leona, Rook, Ace and Deuce (Practice Sprint) & Riddle, Jade, Jack and Epel (Revelation Code). From RSA side, we still have the remaining 5 dorm leaders and secondary characters like Chenya and the dwarfs.

I don't know if Twst will reveal the named NPCs with actual faces or just let them with the normal school/dorm uniforms sprites. This post is only meant to be informative on my part.

Minajael starring as the Princess in a play

Mina reminds Tim that he performed in a musical play that the club held during the “Cultural Festival” (idk if they’re legit talking about the VDC or another unspecified culture festival), to which Tim replies that he saw it bc one of his colleagues was acting it in. Mina was playing the princess in a red dress. 

While we can’t say he was exactly using Jasmine’s red clothes or that his scene was that movie scene, it’s likely that the “red dress” is a reference to the sequence.

You don’t need to be from Magift to play in the “main team”

That… we already knew. But with the way Jack immediately jumped when recognizing Minajael, we got the impression that he was really from the Magift club, since he was in that game. 

And to top it off, the Savanaclaw NPCs were fuming at the mouth bc Mina was not a mere theater kid thrown into the lion’s den. He knew what he was doing and won that game for RSA with a three-pointer shot after stealing the disc [post coming soon].

Why the Drama club for Minajael?

In this post, user @/donanimee pointed out that the decision for such a club for Mina is because of Jasmine fooling Jafar through acting and I wanted to expand on that point!

Jasmine doesn’t only “put on an act” for Jafar, there are several other instances in the movie where she needs to be creative with her words to get out or take something out of a situation. 

The first was getting along with Aladdin’s trick so they could escape from the vendor’s wrath and she locked in instantly pretending that Abu was the sultan and that a camel was her doctor. It shows how versatile and ready to solve problems she is, even if it means playing the fool for a hot minute which is not something easy to pull off or expect that anyone (especially arrogant or conceited) could do).

The second time was flirting purposefully seductively with Prince Ali (who she thinks is convinced as hell that he could just waltz into her balcony and be charming), luring him into a false sense of security and waiting for him to say just the wrong thing so she could send him packing. What actually saves Aladdin’s skin in that scene is that, even when fumbling, he lets his honest side show and it clues Jasmine into his potential true identity. And the rest is history.

The third time is to distract Jafar from seeing Aladdin and inventing a bunch of compliments on the spot for him. She mentions how he’s tall, dark, handsome, well dressed, he has angular eyebrows, cute gaps between his teeth and the iconic “your beard is so… twisted~”. Talk about an improv queen! 

Tbh I was taken by surprise when thinking that they would put Minajael in the Magift club (just by proxy) bc I didn’t think it made sense for him and was surprised a second time about the Drama club mention but it all clicked!

They’re making use of that small detail in how Jasmine acts for Mina and it works so perfectly! I can't wait to see him in action~

When Oliver is acting fearful and careful, Rielle remembers his friend, describing characteristics that pertain to a possible Twst!Flounder (whom we don’t know if he’s a merman like the Tweels, based on Ursula’s pet eels, or a normal fish).

Twst!Flounder is “a scaredy-cat but really kind guy”. He’s been Rielle’s absolute best friend since they were little. Whenever Rielle got into fights with his father, the king, Twst!Flounder was always there with him. While Rielle was looking forward to come to land, leaving his friend was the one thing that truly made him lonely and he hoped T!F is watching the match.

But in another moment, when Oliver suggests calling Minajael to talk if they should go inside the room or not because it could be dangerous, Rielle immediately sours up and recalls his other friend Horatio, who is a musical conductor (“his profession is musician”) and always tale-tells to his father about Rielle’s antics. “A friend who worries way too much and is always fussing over [him]”.

Oliver assumes that Horatio was Rielle’s caretaker, much to the other’s dismay. Rielle hates that people treat him like a kid. 

I can’t stress enough how important was this tidbit because it was foreshadowed here how Mina would play a form of “King Triton” in the argument with Rielle, similar to Triton and Ariel’s scenes when he scolds her for missing the performance and more on the aftermath/fallout post Triton destroying her grotto, in how she was left crying and he swam away, knowing he went too far but thinking it was best to leave her have some space… 

I’ll talk more about this point in another moment!

Back to Horatio, it’s a curious name because it’s not the first time it is mentioned in Twst. Back in Book 3, episode 27, when the group enters the Atlantica Memorial Museum, Jack comments: “Here's a photo commemorating the visit of Horatio XII, court musician... Here's one of a fourth princess…”

No image of Horatio XII is shown to us. We can see King Triton’s statue in the background but when Jack comments on it in their visit post-overblot, you can clearly see who he’s talking about.

So I wonder if Horatio XII is this Horatio that Rielle is talking about (because he talks about him as if he’s much older than him and his profession is being a conductor, so he should be an adult of sorts) or someone of his family, all Horatios related back to Sebastian. 

Edit: I forgot about it but commenter @/pk2-2006 reminded me of the interesting fact that Sebastian's full name is "Horatio Thelonious Ignacious Crustaceous Sebastian Crab". This is where the "Horatio" name comes from!

Similarly, a fourth princess is mentioned in that b3ch27 but we don’t know if it’s referring to Ariel’s original other 6 sisters (if this and Horatio XII are older photos from another time) or if it’s Rielle’s sister. I noticed it bc in one of his wikias, his family section has “six other unnamed siblings”, not brothers. 

From NRC side, we got 3 names:

Claire Fontaine (Pomefiore)

Although mostly use in feminine form, it can be used for unissex. "Claire" is of French origin and translates directly to "clear," "bright," or "light-colored". It stems from the Latin word clarus, which also conveys "famous" or "brilliant".

🫧🫧🫧 Fontaine is a French surname meaning "fountain" or "spring". Derived from the Late Latin word fontana, it was originally a topographic name used to identify families who lived near a natural spring, well, or water source.

Together, it forms "bright fountain" or "clear well/spring".

Lucien Benoit (Scarabia)

"Lucien" is the French form of the Latin name Lucianus, which is derived from the Roman family name Lucius, stemming from the Latin word lux (meaning "light").

🕯✨️✨️ "Benoit" is derived from the Latin Benedictus, which comes from benedicere (combining "bene" meaning "well" and "dicere" meaning "to speak"). Literally, it translates to "speaking well of" or "blessed".

Together, it forms "blessed light".

Talis Ferris (Ignihyde)

"Talis" has multilingual origins, but since he's a Ignihyde guy, I'm working with the Ancient Greek meaning.

Often connected to the variant Tallis or Talys, rooted in Old French (taillis) meaning "woodland clearing" and Greek (thállō) meaning "to blossom" or "to bloom".

🏞🌳🌳 "Ferris" has two main origins: English (Norman/Latin): Derived from the Latin word ferrum (meaning "iron"). Historically, it began as a locational surname for people living near iron mines or working as blacksmiths. Irish and Scottish: Closely tied to the Gaelic name Fearghus (anglicized as Fergus), which translates to "man of vigor" or "strong man". In some Irish Catholic naming traditions, Ferris was also used as an anglicized variation of Piaras (the Gaelic form of Peter).

Together, either "woodland clearing/iron" or "to blossom/iron" or "to blossom/man of vigor". I think that the specific Greek root meaning "blossom" but Ferris refers to "iron" (but we could recall it to ferryman, as in Charon, which is a reach in my part).

From RSA side, we got 5 names:

Tim Kamba (Privalo)

I personally hear the romanji for Tim like "Timu". But let's carry on. Tim/Timothy comes from the ancient Greek name Timotheos, which combines time (meaning "honor" or "respect") and theos (meaning "God"), forming "honoring God". It's occasionally used as short form of the Germanic name Dietmar, which translates to "famous people" or "famous nation".

🙏🙏🙏 "Kamba" is said to be primarily referring to the Akamba (or Kamba) people and their Bantu language, originating from central Kenya. The word Kikamba has ties to the translation "the Ostrich Country".

Together is "honoring God"/"Kamba". An interesting rabbit hole on "kamba" from the JP perspective, as one of the meanings also has "God" in it. Given that this is a Privalo guy (Nala's dorm), maybe it's mostly referencing Timon and Pumbaa? It could be. From the sound I immediately thought of them.

Oliver Marchfield (Rosauroria)

"Oliver" derives from the Latin word olivarius (from oliva), literally meaning "olive tree planter" or "olive branch bearer." Also has some connections with the Old Norse name Óleifr, which means "ancestor's descendant" or "ancestor's legacy." Another Germanic root theory links it to Alfher, meaning "elf army".

🌿🌿🌿 "Marchfield" typically means "border field" or "territory by a border river."

Together, it's "olive/border field". Or just plain "olive/march/field".

Winter Blessbell (Rosauroria)

"Winter" refers to the season. It derives from the Old English word wintr, which traces back to Proto-Germanic roots connected to "water" or "wet".

❄️❄️❄️ "Blessbell" is self-explanatory, although it's fair to say that "bell" (depending on the romanji used) could be for "belle" (as in "beauty"). Which reunites as "blessed beauty".

Together, it's "winter/bless/bell" or with my reach, "winter's blessed beauty".

Sylvie Constille (Psycheros)

"Sylvie" is derived from the Latin word silva, which means "wood" or "forest".

🌲🌲🌲 "Constille" doesn't have much results but it feels closer to the word "constellation".

Together, "forest/constellation" or "forest of constellations".

Vega Allenby (Psycheros)

"Vega" has multiple origins. The Arabic one translates to "swooping eagle" or "falling". It comes from the Arabic phrase al-nasr al-waqi, referring to one of the brightest stars in the night sky (in the constellation Lyra). The Spanish origin functions as a surname meaning "dweller in the meadow" or "fertile plain", also referring to the Virgin Mary as "Virgin of the Meadow".

🌠🌌🌌 The star specifically is the Alpha Lyra, the brightest star of the constellation. Lyra is a callback to the history of Orpheus, which takes place in the Underworld. "Allenby" combines "Alein (or Allan)", a French or Breton personal name meaning "handsome" or "little rock" and "by", an Old Norse suffix meaning "farm," "settlement," or "village". It translates roughly to "Alein’s farm" or "Alein's village".

Together, "swooping eagle"/"Alein's farm".

{Rielle’s UM}

Incantation spell: “Over the waves, riding the wind, to the very ends of this world!”

Unique Magic: Path to Your World (パス・トゥ・ユア・ワールド, Pasu Tu Yua Warudo),『彼方へ響く歌声』or ‘Song That Echoes Beyond'. 

What does it do?: After reciting the incantation spell, Rielle sings a melody and enchants objects, to which its holder should hold on tight, transforming them into magical communication devices. It relies on Rielle’s voice. 

Observations: Rielle can’t re-cast the magic from far away. If he concentrates on the specific object, he can dispel the magic from that one without breaking communication with the others. But he also can dispel it in its totality if needed.

Meaning: “Path to Your World” has a similar title to Ariel’s solo song “Part of Your World”. 

*The katakana パス (pasu) can be read as “Path” but sounds similarly to “Pass”. Yet, in Valkyrii’s translation, she felt “Path” “sounds more natural in English than ‘Pass to Your World’,” and I agree.

The incantation spell feels like a description of riding a boat in the sea, possibly like the opening scene in Little Mermaid when we see the sailors fishing, the waves splashing and the wind going through the sails. 

The core of this spell is communication, tying together Ariel’s singing voice, her deal with Ursula but also the mutual support her friends from the sea and other earthly animals gave to each other and her in her journey.

{Minajael’s UM}

Incantation Spell: “Do not close your eyes. Do not be afraid. Now, release the chains.”

Unique Magic: Crystallize Clear (クリスタライズ・クリア, Kurisutaraizu Kuria), 『澄み渡る星の瞳』or ‘Eyes Clear as Stars’. 

Meaning: *On X, user kawasemi_toa pointed out that Minajael's UM may have been inspired by a line from A Whole New World, sung by Jasmine: “But when I’m way up here, it’s crystal clear”.

The incantation spell has two important parts: the first two verses are referring to different moments in the scene where Aladdin takes Jasmine up for a magic carpet ride, emphasizing for her to not close her eyes to the scenery and to trust him; the third is possibly the freedom theme in the movie, especially for Genie who is freed from his shackles (or “chains”) by Aladdin’s last wish.

The core of this spell is “unraveling the truth” of other people’s magic. It has significance with Jasmine’s search for freedom but also discovering the truth about Jafar and Aladdin as the story progressed.

What does it do?: Minajael can unravel the contents and formulas of a spell, which makes him able to dispel it. 

Observations: Minajael can’t “dispel things in a flash”. Magic activation or breaking requires both knowledge and imagination to envision the spell clearly, so he’s a bit restricted by his own knowledge foundation from the royal archives.
