Some thoughts on tonight’s episode
Aaron should have gotten to be way more angry. We should have gotten an actual fight between Robron. I mean seriously if not an episode like today then when? Of course I don’t want them to break up but geez the way the show treats them lately is sooo boring. And it’s certainly not fair to Aaron. I don’t know if the show just doesn’t care or doesn’t remember how to write for Aaron but I often hate how they do it lately. Like there was a time when I used to get so frustrated because Aaron got angry at Rob all the time during like the later half of 2016 but this isn’t any better. Aaron not having a voice and not being able to get angry when it makes sense just makes it not feel right. Aaron doesn’t feel like Aaron a lot to me lately. I miss the passionate man who spoke up when he wasn’t being treated right even if that meant a fight.
This is also part of why I don’t want Seb around because look at an episode like today. This should have been more about how Rob didn’t take Aaron’s feelings into consideration at all in the decisions he made and he hurt him. Instead we got what we have all year cutesy boring family stuff. I’m over it. A whole year that has been devoted to Seb and Rebecca when it should have been more about Robron.
It felt like that birthday party was full of foreshadowing. it happened on bonfire night which means fireworks which could be foreshadowing drama to come. It was a surprise birthday so Aaron and Rob didn’t know about like it like they wouldn’t if say a paternity twist was coming. The biggest to me though was the little welly. I don’t really see the point in bringing up the Dingle Welly (which is the shows biggest way to symbolize someone becoming a Dingle) only for it to end up in the fire unless their real goal was to say Seb is not a Dingle and he never will be. I also think Rob is the one who threw it in the fire too which could be foreshadowing his choosing to let Seb live with Rebecca is how he looses him for good.
I still don’t think Seb is coming back for good. There are already a lot of kids in the village right now and a lot of them are already missing a parent which limits what the show can do with them. Another thing is if Seb comes back whatever storylines Emmerdale wants to give Robron they have to consider him and Rebecca’s history. If he leaves they can start branching away from him and the Whites which is what I think the show has been trying to do since the crash. The Whites are a family that just never worked in Emmerdale which is part of why I can’t see the new show runners leaving any trace of them hanging around the village which is exactly what Seb would be. If he grows up in ED he’d inevitably reference the Whites at some point which is not what I think the show wants. Also if Seb continues to be part of Robron’s lives the storylines we got this year is the kind we will continue to get with them at least for a little while. If he goes the show has a lot of room to do new things. I think with Robron discussing having their own kid together (through surrogacy) it says a lot to me that the show wants to move them in other directions. Rebecca is also the kind of person who in a week could say that she wants to move to another country just because and she was taking Seb. I think a lot people assume Seb is coming back full time with Robron because they like him and want him to stay but the signs continue to show that he could just as easily leave.
