Am I the only one who's kind of creeped out by this Roxy? I'm getting kind of an uncanny-valley vibe from her--she has literally said nothing except for "sup," and even if you assume that John only picks one of those "choices," she still repeated it twice because she already said it when he ran into her. I mean, isn't she usually more verbose than that?
People have noted that the format of the text introducing her is kind of oddly unfamiliar. I know that it's meant to mirror the text from Gamzee and Jane's shop flashes, but that actually doesn't really help. In both of those instances, the "shopkeeper" really was unfamiliar to the person from whose perspective we were seeing them. Added on top of that, each other shopkeeper was (perhaps more disturbingly) at the time VERY VERY inhuman. Gamzee was an insane and indecipherable alien clown acting as a slave to the alpha(?) timeline, and Jane was an evil, emotionless cyborg under the command of sea-Hitler and operating with ruthless efficiency.
That inhuman-ness combined with the somewhat unsettling white and empty sky and the aimless fireflies just seems really creepy. If anything, the connection to the previous shop flashes doesn't explain away the oddness, it just makes it more sinister.
