Thinking about the Glorious 25th of May and how a fictional revolution is a lot easier to celebrate together than an actual one, which is also why we always mythologize revolutions as we celebrate them. Thinking also of the 25th of May 2020, the death of a man who'd just been minding his own business, and how the police and state have tried their hardest (and try still) to crush the uprising that began in the wake of that murder. How art is a lie that helps us understand the truth but that often fandom consists of sanding those uncomfortable truths off of a work of fiction so it can be enjoyed more easily.
I'm going to be reblogging some posts after this about what happened in Minneapolis after the 25th of May five years ago, when the cops once again murdered a black man in broad daylight. If you can, I invite you to think about what you saw then, and afterwards, and in the five years since.

The Bromeliad Trilogy by Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite and first experiences of the writing of Sir Pterry (GNU).
If you have enjoyed or are enjoying the scale and interaction between small and big, human and small humanity that Burrow's End gives (and tbf also can deal with the general Watership Down vibes) I can't advise this enough.
The books are wonderful, and the audiobooks just as satisfying, read by the legend Nigel Planer, and even/especially what I started on; the Abridged cassettes read by the legend that is Tony Robinson, aka Baldrick from Blackadder.

I found this treasure while browsing the library. The original 1981 version. Of course I checked it out and am now reading super early Pratchett that I didn't know existed.
