If someone is openly posting that kind of content, it’s clearly meant for an audience that enjoys it, no one is forcing anyone else to look at it. The simplest solution is to block, scroll, and curate your own space instead of attacking others. What’s especially frustrating is how serious terms get thrown around so casually; labeling someone with accusations meant for real world harm just because of fictional preferences weakens the importance of those words and distracts from real issues and real victims who actually need attention and support. At the end of the day, targeting people who aren’t hurting anyone while ignoring genuine harm happening in the real world just feels completely misplaced.

People often respond with “but it can harm real victims or trigger them,” but the point still stands: nobody is forcing anyone to engage with content they don’t want to see. If something is upsetting or uncomfortable, the internet already provides tools like block, mute, scroll, and content filtering basic options that let people control their own experience without turning it into harassment. What doesn’t make sense is choosing to stay in spaces you dislike just to attack the people posting there, especially when it escalates into bullying, doxxing, death threats, or trying to get someone removed from the platform entirely. Fanfiction and fanart exist in a huge, diverse fandom space where not everything is going to be tailored to every individual—and that’s okay. The internet is built on choice: you choose what to view, what to engage with, and what to ignore. But that choice stops mattering when people decide to take it further and target others instead of simply curating their own feed. There’s a big difference between “I don’t like this” and actively trying to harm someone over it, and that line gets crossed way too often.

If someone truly believes they’re “helping victims,” by bullying, dogpiling, or doxxing people over fictional content doesn’t match that goal. there’s no need to target others or try to push them off the internet. It isn’t hurting real people. If someone wants to support real victims, that energy is better spent focusing on actual issues and real life harm instead of attacking strangers online.
