while working on a new character build this weekend, it occurred to me that it’s possible the Land of Shadow and the Roundtable Hold were severed from time and their physical locations in the Lands Between by the same method. initially I assumed they must have been separated and sealed off by two different means, because we can visit what seems to be the present-day Roundtable Hold In Leyndell and there doesn’t seem to be any vestigial or leftover remnants of the Shadow realm laying around where it used to connect to the Lands Between, and you would expect the larger area (an entire chunk of the continent) to be harder to seamlessly disappear.
now that I’ve given it some more thought, though, I could see the two having been concealed by the same method and by the same wording but for entirely different reasons. Marika is the most logical person to have sealed off the Land of Shadow, obviously, and I think she’s also the most likely person to have given the Tarnished a place for their champions to meet, originally in Leyndell but then separated in its own little reality bubble for reasons I’m still formulating a theory around. (something something putting their hideout somewhere the Greater Will can’t influence it, hence the Roundtable Hold’s Two Fingers being unable to get a response from the GW in an emergency, if you must know.)
one area she’d hide because she’s burying any evidence of Messmer and the crusade she went on (and seemingly suppressing as much of the Hornsent culture as possible from influencing the Lands Between, too) and one area she’d have motivation to conceal because she’s already treating the Tarnished as a contingency plan by banishing them until she needs to call them back later, and leaving the original Roundtable Hold intact could even be a way to deflect suspicion about its duplication or current status. is this anything?
