iâm so sick of ATLA discourse. why is everyone so obsessed with who was the âbest avatarâ. itâs so stupid. Kyoshi was ruthless, plain and simple, it was for the greater good, but her tactics had consequences, as did her creation of the Dai Li. she lived to be 230 years old. 230 years of having an Avatar that just kills people who oppose her is long enough to create a bad reputation. Roku, as the Avatar after her, was forced to act in her shadow, and against expectations created by her. Roku, above all else, was scared of being seen as a tyrant, which makes sense considering his predecessor. it was his inaction that led to Sozin wiping out the air nomads in his quest to end the Avatar, but you could argue that Kyoshi set a bad precedent that forced Roku into the position he was in. imagine how it would look if he killed the fire lord, especially after Sozin garnered support for his cause. Aang, the Avatar after him,ran away. he abandoned his duty as the Avatar and doomed the world to a war spanning 100 years because he was scared, but you could argue that Roku left him in a terrible spot as a child, by refusing to deal with Sozin when he had the chance. Korra, the Avatar after him, reset the Avater cycle, but you could argue that Aang put her in a bad position by leaving the world in the middle of reconstruction. Amon was only able to gain power because Aang died before he could finish ensuring that the new world he created was equitable for everyone, and he only died young as a result of cellular degeneration due to his time in the iceberg, which he ended up in because he ran away. Korra wouldnât have been the Avatar if Aang had never run away, but he did, and he died young and the cycle had to choose somebody earlier than it was supposed to. why do you think she was bending three elements at like 4 years old. Korra made some bad choices, but she literally had to get speedrun through the process because by the time she was 17, the world was supposed to have a fully realized Avatar and it didnât. Korra reset the Avatar cycle, and Pavi or whoever is gonna make a bunch of mistakes as a result of that, mistakes that the next Avatar is gonna have to fix. thatâs literally how the cycle works, and Korraâs reset of it serves as a blank slate, a way to erase the mistakes of Avatars past and start anew. any time i hear somebody say âKorra shouldâve done x, Aang shouldâve done y, Roku shouldâve done zâ all i hear is âi wish the story didnât happen and also iâm stupidâ. shut up. the Avatar cycle is a narrative device meant to represent balance, and how the sisyphean task of âfixing the worldâ gets pushed onto the next generation. Korra would smack Aang in a fight and he would beat her in chess. do you feel better now? is that really the most interesting part of the story to you? fuck you man.
so lemme get this right, orc girls called you cowardly. so do you want me to believe the elf girls called you mighty?
you like ulquihime because the idea of love teaching us to be human no matter what is beautiful and they contrast eachother well. i like ulquihime because it validates ichiruki. we are both unwell.
this isnât a new story. iâve just been thinking about it a lot. about him. about ulquiorra.there is something about him. more than the masterful use of negative space or the relatable nature of his search for the heart. something striking in his visage. he is like an angel. terrifying in his beauty. serene in his cruelty. oh yes he is like an angel. he never acts in hate. or love. or anything. he does not understand us. he couldnât possibly. for what greater boon is there than apathy? the ability to act without constraint. without pain. without self. oh yes he is like an angel. not the strongest. not the smartest. and nonetheless the one who curried the most favor with his lord. the one who obeyed. oh yes he is like an angel. the one who learned to want. to wonder. surely this could not be paradise. the one who dared to reach out a hand. to take for himself that which he was lacking. surely this could not be paradise. oh yes he is like an angel. one in particular. the one who cries. one who is not an angel at all.

King resonates with me as an adopted kid. heâs constantly putting on a facade to appear strong, to act like nothing bothers him but heâs desperate for connection. heâs not quite old enough to understand that being known for being powerful isnât the same as being known. and when he learns that he actually contains the power heâs wanted his whole life he realizes that he didnât really want the power, he wanted what he thought it would bring him. heâs surprisingly complex in a very simple way. heâs interesting in a way thatâs easy to understand, in the way that children are. he sees the world in a childlike way as well, heâs gonna grow into a full size titan and he doesnât know if he can live up to the responsibility but his dad âloafsâ him so itâs okay. like when you were terrified of monsters as a kid but your dad said heâd fight any monsters he saw and all of sudden you werenât scared anymore. King is the most honest character in the show because he hasnât really learned how to lie yet, Eda pretends she doesnât want Luz going to Hexside cuz they wonât teach her right but really sheâs scared Luz wonât need her if she goes, Luz pretends she just wants to be a witch during the Palisman choosing thing, when really she wants to be understood by the people she cares about, and running away to the boiling isles was really just an attempt to find people who would, but King shrinks Willow and Gus because he wants Luz to hang out with him, he pretends to be a ruler because he wants to feel important, important enough to stay with. he says he doesnât miss Luz as heâs clinging to her leg, heâs not old enough to be good at lying. also i just love Alex Hirsch heâs awesome
star trek online lets you send the lower decks cast out on dangerous missions. we can make the new episodes we have the technology
another thing i love about star trek: lower decks is the way that friendships between characters progress organically. like obviously thereâs heart to hearts and plotlines that progress relationships but alongside that thereâs clearly progress we arenât there for. like at a certain point Mariner says Boims sometimes instead of Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi become Ruthie and Tends, Tâlyn becomes T and we donât have to witness some overly campy dialogue like âhey Boims, can i call you that?â âplease donâtâ âtoo lateâ hahahaha get it she gave him a nickname. thatâs why she calls him that sometimes haha. idk itâs just nice man they feel like real friends. like sometimes people are just fast friends and we as an audience are smart enough to understand how that works without painful explanation of social dynamics. show donât tell type shit
