Screw it, here’s some Rocket x Mantis x Gamora headcanons:
Mantis is def the glue that holds this unusual trio together.
If they’re all sleeping together, Mantis is probably the one in the middle, but it can be Rocket too (not that he’s jealous or pouting when he doesn’t bc that’s the warmest spot to be in).
Groot has a dad and a green mom and another bug mom.
It’s very rare that they all get to spend time with just each other and aren’t part of the whole team. Makes the quality time they do get even more special.
Mantis is obv the most affectionate one. Always wants to hold hands (w/ her gloves on), hug, and even smooch once she realizes how nice it is. Gamora is slightly more apt to giving in in a semi-public setting and reciprocating than Rocket.
Moments where Mantis is probably asleep between them or in awe with the stars outside their viewport, and Gamora and Rocket talk amongst themselves.
There’s an understanding between Rocket and Gamora because they’ve both been torn apart and used. They find their scars and modifications more than ugly or unfortunate, but Mantis doesn’t see it that way. When she’s allowed, Mantis traces the scars on them both and wants nothing more than to comfort them.
Gamora used to have one of the larger rooms on the ship, now it’s cramped by two more individuals, clingy and huffy.
Rocket has a boatload of nicknames for both of them.
Gamora most often complains about the smell of oil or burning from both.
Mantis is often told stories about places she’s never been to - in actuality, Rocket and Gamora frame these actual, painful events like tales for her benefit.
Gamora def comforts both during static storms in space (ofc Rocket blusters but his fur is always standing on end).
