SUPERBOY AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #218 "The Secret Villain the World Never Knew" (145o)
Publication Date: 7/76
Creators: Cary Bates, Mike Grell
Roll Call: Clark, Kirt Niedrigh / Earth Man, Tyroc, Rokk, Nura, Gim, Infectious Lass
Plot Summary:
Tyroc comes to join the Legion and they haze him with "Koraz," a made-up villain who's actually Dirk or Clark in a costume, depending on the instance. Tyroc passes their test and is about to be inducted. The previously rejected Earth Man gets upset that they chose Tyroc instead of him and wears the Koraz suit, since his Absorbency Boy powers give him the powers of Dirk and Clark since they were wearing the suit and apparently left some radiation in there that he could absorb. Tyroc outsmarts and defeats him with a super-sonic scream, knowing he would in his inexperience turn on the super-hearing full-blast. They induct Tyroc.
Notes:
Kirt thinking Tyroc stole his job is too topical
Cover of the Day: Iron Man #64 (November, 1973) Art by John Romita, Mike Esposito, & Morrie Kuramoto
Awesome Legion cover by Ryan Sook!

Behind the scenes of promo video of Rökk
Tfw you're tracking a monster with a dingus who doesn't know crap about Troll death rituals! Another mock comic page, I wanted to try an interesting page layout and draw more Rokk at the same time. I'm hoping the focus shift in the panels works to draw your eye between the skulls and the characters but I fully expect it might not have the desired effect! I'm not 100% happy with the bottom panel but I was getting a little burned out on the whole thing and decided to call it done regardless. The skulls have had the ash wiped off of them which is why they're a different colour to the bones in the last panel. Trolls believe their god can see through the eyes of their dead, they'll often clean up and place skulls of Trolls who have been murdered. The goal is to point them towards the bodies of the victims so that their god can see the suffering the dead endured and grant them a peaceful place in the afterlife (called the Uhderfhae). Trying to have Khan explain something like this without it being a massive sentence was hard, I went for a shorter version that doesn't mention their god/the point of the skulls in depth. Khan is missing his scars in this as he's a little younger than his current timeline self - the Rokk with him is called Erah, whom I haven't drawn outside of this. Yortma are large malicious creatures who will kill/burn/eat an entire family group of Trolls if given half the chance. Thanks for looking!

So, NaNoWriMo...
Well guys, it’s about that time of the year again~ This year I’m doing something a little different.
In previous years I’ve always focused pretty heavily on bulking up I Danced Til Dusk, but this year, I have a new story in mind: The Dragon Thief. I’ve been preparing for this story for the last 3-4 months, ever since the idea for a pretty boy clad head-to-toe in gold jewelry unceremoniously butted his way into my head and declared himself to be Rokk. The little shit’s been dying for his turn in the spotlight ever since, and now he’s finally getting it! I will still be working on IDTD a bit, but TDT is my main focus this year.
In previous years, I’ve also acknowledged that I don’t the time or discipline it takes to tackle the full 50k word goal. That still holds true for this year, so I’ll be setting a much more manageable goal for myself. I’m tentatively setting a goal of 25k words with a stretch goal of 35k, but I’m leaving that goal open for adjustments as I go. After the first week I should have a better idea of what I’ll be capable of and revise my goals accordingly.
Wish me luck, guys!!! I’ll keep you posted with progress reports! Write on!! ;D
