Does Bucky Barnes know how to drive?
Honestly, i'm pretty sure Bucky can drive but for this headcanon i imagine that he can't and Sam wants to teach him.
It starts when they plan a roadtrip from NYC to Sams family in Lousiana.
They look for a good route and a car to rent when Sam asks Bucky if he wants to drive the first part of the route or if Sam should start.
Buckys face falls just for a second before he tensely mumbles that he cant drive. Sure, he can ride a motorcycle with ease, but he never learnd how to drive a car, cause he simply never needed to.
Sam is shocked and decides to teach Bucky. There are enough empty streets where they can practice and still somehow get to Louisiana.
Bucky is not really thrilled about Sams idea, but agrees to it because Sam is begging him like a little child.
They plan a good route to drive, get their stuff together and the roadtrip can begin.
Sam knows Bucky, the super soldier with the staring problem and the big heart deep down. At this point he would even call Bucky more than just a co-worker.
Sam expects Bucky to drive like he fights. Completely focused and smooth like a cat.
Oh, how wrong he was with that guess.
The moment bucky sits behind the steering wheel, the engine of the car roaring soothingly in the background, his expression fills with panic.
Sam has never seen Bucky so frightened since the moment they first met and he wants to laugh about it, but he cant.
Bucky tries to fight the panic, doesnt want to show this weak emotions, but he cant.
His face gives his real feelings away and Sam feels sorry for him.
Sam doesnt think about laughing for another second. Instead he explains everything Bucky needs to know about driving, pointing to the padels and the gearstick while talking.
Bucky listens concentrated and Sam can see that a little bit of the tension leaves the super soldiers body, which makes him breath a sigh of relief.
When they start a first attempt of driving Bucky stalls the engine and Sam can see the disappointment in the winter soldiers face, the anger with himself.
Sam tries to cheer bucky up as good as he could and the second time he tries the car starts to run.
Bucky doesnt even hide his big smile when the car rolls the first few meters across the street and Sam cant hide his own joy about it.
Soon after this little 'win' the engine starts to roar unhealthily and Sam doesnt need to look to know what the problem is.
He grabs one of buckys hands that are clutched to the steering wheel and gets a panicked look from him.
Sam leads Buckys hand to the gear stick and lets the super soldier grab it.
With buckys warm hand beneath his Sam shifts from first to second gear and the engine starts to quiet.
Bucky smiles cautiously and soon after they shift from second to third gear.
Sam lets his hand rest on Buckys a little longer than necessary before he pulls it back and grins to himself.
