HALLOWEEN SLASHER HORROR: 🔪Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper🔪 by Robert Blo...
Today's film: Psycho The film Psycho, from Alfred Hitchcock was released in 1960 and has been an unforgettable classic. Not only has it been considered one of the greatest films of all time, it has established Hitchcock as a brilliant master of suspense, and he’s been showered with praise for decades and decades now. But there’s something missing here. Not as many people know this, but the film was an adaptation of the 1959 Novel Psycho by Robert Bloch, whose efforts were completely overshadowed by Hitchcock’s film. Of those who were aware of the novel, many think this book was based off the story of Ed Gein, serial killer who made eating utensils, clothes, and outfits out of human body parts. He supposedly wanted to become his dead mother, who was the domineering type, so he tried to make a woman suit. It’s not exactly what inspired the story. Yes, Gein was arrested some 35 miles from where Bloch was living, but Bloch maintained that he didn’t know anything about Gein at the time. It was really intended to push the idea that the man next door could be a monster. I can say if you’ve seen the movie, you have the basic plot of the novel, but within the pages of that book, you’ll find a significantly more disturbing experience. The main reason for this is that we are much, much closer to Norman Bates in the novel than we are in the film. In fact, while the film starts out with a scene with Sam Loomis and Mary Crane, the book starts out with Norman being berated by his mother. Both the book and film are undisputed masterpieces. #psycho #hitchcock #Robertbloch #alfredhitchcock #horrormovies #horrorfilms #horrornovels #horrorbooks #bloch #horror #suspense https://www.instagram.com/p/CEkDGZKAzQf/?igshid=1x1r9iy46iu1d
