Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines was released on July 2, 2003. It was the first film in the franchise not to be co-written or directed by creator James Cameron. The film took place 10 years after the events of Terminator 2 in 2004 and now 23-year-old John Connor (Nick Stahl taking over the role from Edward Furlong) was living off the grid and had to face a new cyborg assassin from the future designated T-X/Terminatrix (Kristanna Loken) and with the help of a T-850 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) prevent The Rise of the Machines. Schwarzenegger was paid a record fee at the time to return for the 3rd film that was pay or play deal plus perks.
