A precious metal in a ring we bring On wedding days to make our union sing Untarnished and always bright  A banker’s asset, a countries might.

A measure of the best of things The prize to be won under five linked rings Gold, the envy of the poor The stock is right and the markets soar!

Gold in history is seen As a pharaohs face - in darkness behind a screen The sunrise and the close of day The Ancients worshiped it and bowed to pray

Desire of many, owned by few This Precious thing from a mountain hew The Standard on which empires rest With which monarchs are obsessed 

The colour of the noonday sun Currency desired by everyone A status mark within all crowns All too often acquired by clowns

Gold, all is but true To have it all much more is due No rest or happiness can it buy Can’t take it with you when you die
