#3252 - Pimelea imbricata var. piligera
One of Australia's 110 or so riceflowers. 40 others grow elsewhere. This variety is found only in SW WA, growing in sand as here, other soils all the way to clay, and gravel. It can be found around granite outcrops, seasonally wet depressions, and sandplains. The wider species is also known from South Australia.
First formally described in 1788 by Joseph Gaertner from unpublished descriptions by Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander. Pimelea is from the Ancient Greek word πιμελή (pīmelḗ), meaning "soft fat or "lard", possibly referring to the oily seeds or fleshy cotyledons in the genus.

Memo Rice flower is an evergreen shrub native to northeastern Australia that is compact and has many small buds like rice grains. As a member of the Compositae family, rice flowers feature heads that are made up of small, individual florets. At first glance, they resemble grains of rice! The Rice flower has been cherished by the Greeks for centuries, and they often referred to the plant as “immortelle” (everlasting) because they retain its beauty long after they’ve been dried. A member of the Asteraceae family, the genus name is derived from the Greek words “ozo” (meaning smell) and “thamnos” (meaning bush), as most species and cultivars feature spicy scents. The language of flowers: The flower language of rice flower, "rich fruit," is said to be derived from the image of rice growing abundantly because it has many buds that resemble rice grains. #australian #native #wildflowers #aboriginal #riceflower https://www.instagram.com/p/Cfp88GgvMHn/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
