laurie had been anxiously standing against the wall of this coffee shop while waiting for her food for far too long, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. she knew she should have come here earlier, because now, all the tables were occupied. she had hoped that by the time her things were ready, she would have found an empty table, but when her sandwich and coffee were placed on the order counter and no one had managed to get up. just her luck. she scanned the room for an open seat, trying to force herself to calm down before her emotions got the better of her - and everyone else here. âum, excuse me,â she asked quietly. âis this seat taken?â
