Happy Halloween everyone!
There was a knock on the door.
Superhero opened, a bag of candies already in hand. A small child with black hair and pale blue eyes exclaimed voice soft as ever yet emboldened by previous successful attempts:
Superhero smiled, even with the black clothes and the pumpkin mask half falling on the side of their face, Superhero couldn't help but see a carbon copy of Supervillain.
-I wouldn't like being tricked tonight. Also I really like your mask.
The child beamed at the compliment.
-Wow! Well you did a very good job.
A soft self-satisfied hum answered their praise. It sounded so much like what Supervillain would do when they were finished with a part of their plan. It had been a while since Superhero had last seen their nemesis.
They gave a large handful of candies to the child. Then Superhero's eyes went to the figure standing behind the child. Well, when thinking about the wolf, here they were, it was Supervillain or someone with a very convincing costume. They said with a calm and noble voice:
The hero smiled, there was no mistaking this voice.
-Long time no see. How are things going for you?
-More or less as expected. I'm sure you understand.
The child seemed to sense that their parent were going to talk for a while, Superhero saw it in the way their mind scrambled to find something. They tugged at Supervillain's sleeves and said with big puppy eyes:
-Can I go to the next house, I saw a group of children there, I think it'll be fine.
The child took the opportunity and went away, leaving a small "Good night sir" in their wake.
Superhero rested their elbow on the doorframe and leaned, their focus went only on their nemesis. The former said cheekily:Â
-So. Is it me or did you dress as yourself?
Superhero put a hand on their chest, half-amused half-falsely hurt.
Supervillain seemed to be perceptive as ever and perhaps Superhero still didn't think before talking. It was okay when it was their nemesis.
There was silence between them. It had been a while since they last saw each other. Who knew being at the top would make them stand so far away? They were each on their mountains unable to see each other.
Superhero had so much to say.
-So you know where I leave now. Could youâŚyou know?
-You know about my child now. Could you not?
Superhero nodded. Of course they wouldn't use that to their advantage. Their child had nothing to do with their past skirmishes, with their age old battle. And they knew Supervillain wouldn't involve the house. After all, what was sure with one was sure with the other.
Supervillain turned to their child, waiting under a streetlight, their small silhouette seemed almost ethereal under the pale light, like an apparition, a black ghost.
-I wouldn't want to keep them waiting.
-Of course. It's been nice seeing you again.Â
Superhero may have been struck by an idea. They shot their nemesis their winning smile.
-Hey, if you'd like you could come back later for dinner. Now that you know where I live.
Supervillain's smile turned soft.
-It would be my pleasure.
