Songs inspired by 10 random words
@retracingben put together a list of songs inspired by words from a random word generator. Pretty cool idea and I dug his choices. So I spent my lunch hour getting 10 words and figuring out where they took me.
Fight: Scenario by Tribe Called Quest
Beggar: Dear Doctor by Rolling Stones
Probably my favorite song on Beggarās Banquet
Propaganda: Like in a Red Prison by Pussy Riot
Punk punk punk. Pussy Riot popped into my mind fairly quickly when thinking of propaganda. Powerful counterĀ to the propaganda of the oligarchs. Probably more of a pop culture pick but, as with much of punk rock, the energy can be more memorable than the words.
Chronology: Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce
I sat with āchronologyā for a bit and nothing butĀ ātimeā came to mind. And if you want a song about time it is hard to find a better one than this one.
Blush: My Blushing Rosie by Al Jolson
Random but sorta fun to run down the Al Jolson tangent. I dedicate this to all of my tumblr crushes. Imagine me singing this to you...but not in black-face.
Spike: Vampire by Peter Tosh
When I read the work āspikeā I immediately thought of killing a vampire with a spike through his/her haeart. And what better vampire song than this one by Peter Tosh.
Crackpot: Crackpot Baby by L7
Fate: The Dangling Conversation by Simon and Garfunkel
This was probably the hardest one for me and I did my research. This was a suggestion from the internets and I think it is a good one.
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm
Couplets out of rhyme
In syncopated time
Homeland: All Blues by Miles Davis
I thought of the TV show and Carrieās love of jazz and Miles Davis.
Anything: Hateful by The Clash
Oh, anything I want he gives it to me
Anything I want he gives it, but not for free
It's hateful
And it's paid for and I'm so grateful to be nowhere
