Kildrummy Castle Hotel is located in Alford in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Soap manufacturer, Colonel Ogston, built the existing castle in 1898. Ogston removed the old home and had the “new” castle built, which served as a private residence until 1954. In the 1950’s, James and Hylda Smith purchased the castle and turned the home into a hotel. They also set up a charitable trust to maintain the gardens. The 16-room structure has en-suite bathrooms and overlooks the ruins of an earlier 13thcentury castle. Kildrummy Castle is decorated in the traditional Scottish hunting lodge tradition with oak wood paneling, chandeliers, wall tapestries, old paintings, and a staircase with carved wooden lion heads on the ends of the newel posts. The 5,500-acre property has a four-bedroom contemporary home, the Kildrummy Castle Hotel, twelve smaller outbuildings and cottages, stables, a pub, a wind farm, tenured farms, and commercial forestry. The Kildrummy estate is on the market for 12.6 million. It is seasonally open to the public and has a restaurant.
