Desultory progress on the sheridan sheath
So in my youtube surfing, I discovered that people often fill in the background manually with dark dye, rather than painstakingly putting multiple coats of a resist on just the flowers, in order to get that high contrast between design and background:
I colored mine in with brown sharpies, which feels like cheating but worked great. ๐คฃ
Then, emboldened by my success using a resist onย knife guyโs sheath the other day, I covered all the tooled areas with resolene, which is WAY EASIER when the background is already dyed and you donโt have to avoid getting resist on it:
(It looks kind of shitty now, but bear with me, because antiqueing gel/paste works miracles.)
This is also an experiment in using different resists -- I used Eco-Floโs Block Out (which is specifically marketed as a resist) for the Kalevala sheath, and for this one Iโm using Resolene, which is sold as a finishing topcoat. I donโt thinkย itโs going to make any difference, assuming theyโre both fully applied and fully dry, but weโll find out. ๐
When the resist is dry, probably sometime tomorrow, Iโm going to hit it with an antique (Iโm leaning toward Eco-Floโs mahogany gel, because itโs nice and dark and very rich in color), which will hopefully stain the border and bring out the detail in the tooling.
(Thereโs a specific Don Gonzales look Iโm trying to mimic with this one, and Iโll show it at the end to compare how close I got -- this project is less about expressing my own tastes/vision, and more about control, seeing whether I can achieve the specific goal I set out for, rather than just โsomething that looks nice.โ)
So, this woman I work for, an very elderly white woman, was talking about the protests. Her two sense? Oh, she thought they were ridiculous! People who had nothing better to do but to go out and destroy other people's property.
And I said nothing then, because, well, it's my job not to care about someone's political beliefs while on the job. My job is to care for people and I'm there for eight hours a day caring for her disabled daughter. I didn't say anything, but I will let this be known.
DEAR ALL WHITE PEOPLE, EVEN THE KARENS!
IF YOU ARE FOCUSED ON THE DESTRUCTION OF THE PROTESTS THEN YOU ARE FOCUSING ON THE WRONG THING!
A black man died! He was murdered! Plain and simple! That is why people are protesting! Enough is enough and silence has not worked so far so now people will make sure that their voices are heard.
As a white girl, I acknowledge that I will never, ever, understand what POC go through. The oppression and discrimination you go through, but I stand with you. Fuck all lives matter! Not everyone is dying and being oppressed! Not everyone is being murdered by cops!
So, I stand with the protests and the destruction of the system and institution that murders and kills innocent black people.

Vandalism of the Greek Consulate in Munich, Germany
In the night of 10th to 11th September the Greek General Consulate in Munich became the target of a colour attack. The facade was sprayed with bitumen and the gate was decorated with the words โExarchia Resists(A)โ. The action is our response to the repression of the Greek state against the squats! In solidarity with all prisoners! No surrender โ No truce!
