I will still be working on republican culture across different social demographics... but only in Rouen and its sourrouding localities. He was very impressed with the manuscrit d'Horcholle that I had resdiscovered last year, after laying in wait for over a hundred years first at the municipal archives of Rouen, then at the departamental archives of the Seine-Maritime, only to find its way at some point to the Patrimoine Library in Rouen. I guess it is tru, that I've managed to accumulate a lot of knowledge and sources of the city, and that positioning my analysis on the national scale would be too broad and too long even for a PhD. Eh.

What made me look at it positively was my supervisor saying: "If you do this correctly, then by the end of your resesech you will have known every inhabitant of Rouen by name, and not a single one of them would have been able to even sneeze without you knowing." Lmao.

From other things, I will be probably doing (paid) seminars about the Frev for undergraduates, starting in September. So that's pretty cool, too.

In the meantime, I will be applying for a scholarship and trying to work out how to approach my research. The prons and cons of doing social history of the Frev:

Pros: Hardly anyone has been doing it since the 50s.

My poor iPad isn’t working with Procreate layers anymore and needs to be replaced. My digital pencil has also disappeared while I was traveling, so it is likely gone forever

I have completed work on my first scanner prototype! I know my notes are messy, so here’s a rundown of the important bits, and information for volunteers  under the cut.

I got 147 total participants! Thanks so much to everyone who has participated and also to those who have reblogged and shared. I'm so close to making my minimum of 200 participants (though more would be great)!

Research Trip Update #6

Today, was my last day researching at the Cody Firearms Museum and the McCracken Research Library. This morning is finished off the last of my archival research before heading to the museum. I had a chance to handle, disassemble and photograph some very special guns. Above are some phone snaps I grabbed - I got some great video and photographs. 

The first is what may be the first bullpup developed, a very intriguing Firearm. The second two photos show Winchester’s would-be AR-15 killer, the Winchester Lightweight Military Rifle. Extremely lightweight and well put together. The last photo is a teaser, the butt of a very special gun - any guesses? 

I got to handle and photograph a couple of other guns including a number of Winchester SPIW prototypes, a Springfield M1903 fitted with a Maxim silencer and a modified Garand. 

Hello all!

Here's a bit of an update. Currently, a total of 338 people have participated. Not all of them will be usable for the final data analysis but that's why I'm aiming for 400 participants (though more is always better) so that even when I have to take out some participants (because they didn't finish, because they didn't meet the qualifications of the study, etc.) the data will still be significant enough to say that something is happening. So please keep sharing!

Anyway, the above is of the 302 participants who made it to the race/ethnicity section. The other 36 people either stopped taking the survey at this part or were redirected to the end of the survey because they probably didn't meet a qualification of the study like being at least 18 years old. It's super cool to see the similarities and differences of participants across racial and ethnic groups
