#reporting scam

Someone "made a mistake" and reported my account, and asked their friends to do it too. Then contacted me to tell me to contact this Carrera from tumblr staff via discord or WhatsApp.

Do you think this it is a skam ?

This is a scam going around tumblr right now affecting people via their DMs that appear to be from mutuals and longterm followers. If someone tells you that they “accidentally reported your account” and to get in touch with a support agent via Discord, it is fake and a scamming attempt to seize your tumblr account, you will be locked out of it and your blog will be used solely to further spread the scam. Delete and ignore any messages you get like this, because this is where it leads:

If you receive the following message (or anything similar) REPORT AND BLOCK THEM!

"Greetings! I accidentally reported your account when I meant to report someone else. It was a mistake and I hope it didn’t cause any issues."

They will provide "evidence" in the form of a picture. This is entirely FABRICATED.

None of this is true.

DO NOT REPLY. DO NOT ENGAGE. AND DO NOT GIVE ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION!

These SCAMMERS will tell you to contact someone on Discord, HUGE REDFLAG, to sort the "report" out.

I saw other people talk about this but people need to know to avoid these scammers.

If you call them out on it, they will block you, which again, proves that they are scammers!

I uploaded the picture to Chat GPT to see what it has to say and it provided the following:

Tumblr does not handle appeals via WhatsApp. Any message telling you to contact someone on WhatsApp is immediately fake.

Tumblr does not name individual “support agents” like “Michael Murakami” in enforcement emails.

The language is unprofessional and inconsistent, with awkward phrasing and scare tactics (“account subject to deletion”, “urgent appeal”).

Real Tumblr emails never ask you to contact a third party outside their official help centre.

The layout and formatting do not match Tumblr’s official enforcement emails.

Threat-based urgency (“account will be deleted”, “final warning”) is a classic scam tactic.

What you should do:

Do not click any links or contact the WhatsApp number.

Do not reply to the email or message.

Report it as phishing in your email client.
