i think siwon got such a raw deal at the end of reply97. right when she wants to go to grad school she gets pregnant? that sucks! and yoon jae’s such an ass about it. no appreciation for, idk, the hope she had for one kind of future for herself being lost to something else.
i was also really pissed when he confessed and she asked to remain friends and he was all “when a man makes a confession like this he’s ready to never speak to you again.” like.......how do you love her sooo much and are soooo tortured over it but somehow that doesn’t mean you can’t cut her out of your life? and the fact that she said his friendship means so much to her and he just threw it back in her face like that....ugh.
one thing i really liked though is when they meet again and siwon is just so fucking cool. she’s been living her life, went to college and is working in television, and they meet randomly. they sit down to have coffee and she has her arms crossed and she’s slouching and she sizes him up immediately, sees right through him, and he can’t even keep up his charade of “oh yeah i’m dating someone” for more than 2 seconds. i also liked how direct she was about liking him. i liked the comparison yoon jae made, how he said “i had forgotten. that if she liked something right now, she expressed the fire of that moment directly, and without hesitation.”---the comparison of how honest she is with liking him to how vibrant she was in her fangirl zeal for tony.
and oh! doesn’t that make siwon like taek, or taek like siwon? in that they both are direct and honest and open about their feelings, and don’t hesitate? and so!!! the reason siwon and yoon jae end up together (other than, you know, the writer wants it, lol) while doek sun and jung hwan don’t (other than that deok sun is in love with taek!! i’m talking structural comparisons here; “reason” isn’t the right word but words are failin me rn) is because siwon is the one who doesn’t hesitate. they don’t get together because of yoon jae, who broods and deliberates and yearns but is just like jung hwa with how he never actually SAYS anything (also with the thing i hate in romantic kdrama leads, this thing where they call the heroine ugly and stupid???? what the fuck *is* that? i don’t get it.), it’s siown who speaks up again and again. in both instances the romance hinges on acting, on speaking up, on not having reservations about how and what you feel for someone and actually focusing on that person and not on all the other people you think may be affected by how you feel and what you want.
is no one gonna comment on the fact that the squid game marbles set is quite literally tiny Reply88 or have I missed it
Loving someone is not just the feeling of wanting to give them things.
It’s the desperate desire to give them things.
Loving someone does not mean that you love to feel them near you.
But it means that you love tp acclimate yourself to them.
Loving someone means no matter how much pain that person causes you, that you find yourself wanting to hate them so much, you can never bring yourself to hate them.
Loving someone doesn’t mean that you don’t hate them.
It means you can’t hate them.
every few months i try watching doek sun x taek cuts of reply88 and i’m always disappointed cause there’s barely anything
