Last night, we watched as the International Space Station soared overhead (the really bright spot in the middle of the photo), and I thought about something. We can figure out how to send people to space from our own soil, but we cannot figure out how to stop killing black people, black trans people, people of color, or other LGBTQ + people. Or maybe it's more that the people in power, don't want to figure it out, don't want things to change. Until black lives matter, all lives matter is a false statement. Until people of color's lives matter, all lives matter is a false statement. Until trans lives matter, all lives matter is a false statement. Until LGBTQ+ lives matter, across the board, all lives matter is a false statement. Today is the first day of Pride month. Remember Stonewall. Remember those who went before, whose lives were cut short for standing up for what they believed in, for simply being who they are, for being black.
