(imagine im the Skyrim courier) Ive been looking for you. Got something I'm supposed to deliver... (hands you a note) I saw Gawain is from Dawnstar! What does home mean to him? His mothers, his faith, a (new) place or feeling? Does he still consider himself having one while traveling? Is he visiting often or avoiding his hometown?
Wow Jason Marsden!-
So Gawain's got the title of being of Dawnstar, but actually his home is on the outskirts of Morthal! His moms were very much like witch of the wilds vibes. They lived in a small cabin in the south of the Hold, and they lived off the land.
He left home as a young adult to go on a pilgrimage from the Throat of the World to the Gildergreen in Whiterun. He got one Hold over before he got attacked, robbed, and left for dead lol. The closest settlement was Dawnstar, so he arrived naked, wounded, and broke. He hung out there for a while doing some mining, guard work, and making/selling potions so he could buy equipment to go back on the road with a newfound appreciation for the dangers involved. He became Thane of Dawnstar after spending his time there and aiding the town which is how he got the title.
He writes to his moms when he's in a big city and can grab a courier, but largely is on his own for his own pilgrimage. They conveniently never learned of his troubles at the start of his journey lol. But he thinks of his home fondly and it's a feeling of safety and security for him. Luckily he also feels it when he's at shrines to Kyne given how much his moms had her icons around their home.
He'll go back home when his journey takes him close by, but for now he's on his own path, but does miss home.
Also including some quick sketchy art of his moms and baby Gawain-
