Just a reminder y’all. Perfectionism whispers that unless your art attains an unattainable level of perfection, it should never be shared with the world. It suffocates with circular logic. I reject perfectionism because neither myself nor my art need to be "perfect" to be valuable or to matter. #rejectfear #healing #wholeness #faith #songwriter
Ibogaine: a natural miracle in neuroplasticity #jenthepilgrim [Part 1]
by Jennifer Nicolaisen
The last day of that first week, we all hiked into a nearby forest for an intentional preparation ceremony.
We left the beach and trekked into the jungle until we found a spot that we liked, next to a cheery bubbling brook. Our guides led myself and Tim, the two initiates, through some simple and non-dogmatic intention setting. We made offerings of sacred oils, fruits, herbs, magical objects, beer and fanta (I’m told Mexican deities are particularly fond of the orange soft drink) in giant palm leaves. We said things out loud to each other in our own words about our personal intentions for working with the plant medicine.
Arrival in Mexico: first week of ibogaine treatment
Jennifer Nicolaisen
The town where I went for my ibogaine treatment course is about 2hrs outside of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. San Pancho* is a charming little seaside village with one main road through the center of town and an abundance of happy, open-minded people. It’s something of a backpacking destination for first-world hippie & counterculture types, a well-known surfing spot, and a paradise for anyone trying to get away from the real world.
I spent the first week with my providers:
front loading my body with probiotics
double-checking EKG results
monitoring blood pressure trends
reviewing labwork
eating LOTS of healthy and locally-sourced food
staying off my phone and social media
setting intention for my practice with iboga
getting comfortable in the new place and with new friends
I feel lucky because I had already been involved in the community and visited San Pancho to hang out with these folks several times in the past year. Yet despite my familiarity and comfort, that first week was still really important for the six of us to intentionally connect as a group and build trust between each other for the journey ahead. There were six of us: 4 treatment providers, then myself and one other person seeking healing.
*the actual name of the town is San Francisco (golden gate bridge and all!) but Pancho is short for Francisco, much like Dick is irrationally a nickname for Richard in English.
Bethel Healing Rooms: out-of-the-box Christianity that isn’t afraid of magic
Jennifer Nicolaisen
The first stop on this pilgrimage to seek healing was a megachurch called Bethel, located in Northern California. It’s a sacred place for my mom, and she invited me to come visit before I left for Mexico back in September. Given that it was a Christian megachurch, and given all my biases and old wounds related to my personal experience of Christianity, I have to admit that I saw some pretty cool stuff.
