I mean I think there's a case to be made that book!LWJ would refrain just because WWX would be verklempt if he found out, and if WWX is still awake none of this goes down. In CQL!LWJ is honestly nowhere near grudgy enough but if he somehow was he'd be sleeping on the couch for awhile.
Remember when CQL!Lan Wangji told Wei Wuxian that it was worth trying to explain what happened with the second flautist because Jiang Cheng is his brother and it's worth trying? I genuinely love him so much because it's not that he doesn't hate Jiang Cheng it's that he knows Wei Wuxian loves Jiang Cheng and in light of that he wants for Jiang Cheng to understand and forgive him. He is a masterclass in supporting your partner at terrible family reunions until the time comes to grab them and go. Remember when CQL!Wei Wuxian made the saddest puppy eyes at Jiang Cheng right before he let them into the throne room, and then Jiang Cheng did actually let them into the throne room? Remember when CQL!Jiang Cheng foreshadowed his later adventures in getting useless stabbed by flinching towards Wei Wuxian when Jin Guangyao drew his sword on them? These are simply my favourite versions of these characters and I feel validated in my excellent taste whenever I pause to think about them. Spoilers and Bookji below
