Project 5 — Reflection 5

I will definitely have to review how to do the paragraph tool as it was confusing me a bit, but the line(?) tool that allows you to add specific styles to highlighted text through one click after making said style is super helpful, especially when experimenting. As I wasn’t sure about text colors/capitalizations in this project, it was helpful to have 2 styles I was able to easily switch between rather than editing the text through multiple buttons.

As mentioned, I’ll have to rewatch the blackboard video about the paragraph tool, but I see how both tools are helpful for project 6.

    Reading the 2 articles makes it clear how gender stereotypes affect so many more things than we think, and women typically always get the short end of the stick. When reading Rachel’s story it was upsetting to see how many medical professionals easily dismissed her symptoms and downright ignored her. When they told her to wait her turn and said “Women cry- what can you do?” you can tell that this is the way they probably treat all women; the nurses and doctors get so many patients that after a certain point they just stop caring about the patients and their symptoms. The fact that women have always been painted as emotional and hysterical also plays a big part in this because if a man acted the way Rachel did he would’ve gotten treatment so much faster. Most men may be unaware or unbothered by the serious medical problems women can face, but male medical professionals have the obligation to be more aware and in tune with their patients and their health so its upsetting how the doctor didn’t even bother to actually examen Rachel. Also, I would expect a little more from female medical professionals because I’m sure they are aware of the way society tends to look at women as overdramatic even when they’re not, I would hope that female medical professionals didn’t also paint their female patients as over dramatic and emotional. Rachel was really lucky that she was with someone who knew she really needed help and kept pestering the doctor to look at her results. In the end the worst things come down to the fact that Rachel was ignored even though she clearly showed she was in a lot of pain, it’s sad how Rachel gets nightmares and that one of the things she least wanted was to be overdramatic, but that the people meant to help her when she was sick made her feel as though she was being dramatic.

In a society that is made of rules and constraints, it can be difficult to go against the grain, to be that individual. The nail that sticks up gets hammered down. Schools make their students wear uniforms and business offices have very standard wear, but there are individual items to make people stand out from the choices of their phone cases to ticket pass holders. People try to individualize themselves, and there are places of individuality.

Harajuku wants to be the answer to that statement. Fashion and standing out are the heart of Harajuku. Punk rock, kawaii, gothic, or Lolita make the physical body of Harajuku. There’s an individual style for anyone. Harajuku fashion is a way to express yourself and find a space where others share similar interests. Kawaii culture emphasizes finding what you love and making it your own. Decora is famous for its mantra of doing whatever you want. Put on those thousands of bows and clips, do what makes you happy.

Communities exist in many shapes and forms in Harajuku. They make it easier to be yourself among others who are similar, rather than face a constrained world by yourself. Support and acceptance allow people to be individuals.

I partially agree with this quote. There are times when the culture dictates that they follow the rules and restraints, but people who want to be individuals can find ways to be one.

Ways to utilize CMC for the betterment of Ummah.

CMC or computer-mediated communication plays a very important role in this era where the technology is being used worldwide especially in pedagogy due to its accessibility and facility. However, as practicing Muslims, we must know the ways to use CMC for the betterment of Ummah by Islamizing its function and not just adhere to learning and teaching but to relate it with Islamic values. We would like to highlight on utilizing CMC in conducting Usrah or Halaqah online, reaching various continents and getting to know people all around the world, and reducing prejudice.

           Back in school days, one of our group members had an experience in joining an Usrah or Halaqah online on Facebook. Thus, instead of posting and sharing unnecessary stuff on Facebook, we can utilize it by conducting Usrah or Halaqah online which means we can use Facebook as a platform to remind others to do good things and stray away from bad things. It may not be as effective as reminding others face-to-face but at least we have done dakwah to others and also ourselves. Other than that, if the Usrah is an open group that can be accessed by all users worldwide, we were able to understand why some people react in a certain way and avoid us to be a judgmental person by listening to their stories and experience.

           By doing this, we can reach all people around the world and get to know different races, cultures, and their worldview towards Islam. We can also approach non-Muslims and try to show them the beauty of Islam by engaging a discourse with them by responding to their curiosity about Islam instead of reprimanding and criticising their perspectives on Islam. This somehow will help in reducing prejudice especially in Islamophobia as well as shaping Muslim’s attitudes towards non-Muslim. Moreover, the famous scholar can make use of CMC as a platform to influence others especially the young ones who are the active users of the internet.

When I usually need to search information I go to Google. Sure this is not my only option there exists many searches like Yahoo or DuckDuckGo but, Google is always my option number one. In my opinion is more reliable.  Also is easy to use the tools to search efficiently.

In addition and another way more specifically to search information in google, is use the symbol minus to take out something that you are not searching, for example,          Mustang -cars       Cars are going to appear in the results.   For the other side, if you want that appear information about mustang and specifically cars you most use the plus,  for example,          Mustang +cars       Then you will have information about Mustang and cars.  

Then when we find the information we need to look if the information is the reliable source, and to know this I usually go to look the references and the bibliography.  In my opinion, make a quick look for the references is very useful, I only search for the author and avoid the anonymous, they are not reliable besides someone renowned even sometimes I just check the "last updated".  However, I try to use website that I already know that are good.

•How do you think you did? I think it was easier than the first time I did it, maybe I believe it was easier because I was more prepared and my knowledges are more. This time I'm almost sure I will certify B2. •What did you have difficulties with? At the beginning of the test I didn't remember some things of the use of English part, I had some difficulties at Key Word Transformation because there were vocabulary I wasn't used to, at an exercise we needed to use the word "set" for expressing a wish or an action and I was lost at that question because I didn't knew it was even possible to use that word in that context. As I always said, I need to expand my vocabulary. •What was easy? Why? How? I believe easier than the first time I did it, but I think it was because my knowledge increase, I joined the things that my old teacher told me and teach me with what my actual teacher teach me, I believe that the first time I did it I haven't the capacity of someone with B2, but now I have. It was easy as I was used to a lot of thinks that came at the test, not only because I did it before but because I practice a lot during this semester at the English class. •Now that FCE is done, what do you expect from class? What would you like to do in class? I would like to practice my oral skills and specially my vocabulary skills, my oral skills are not just bad in english, but in Spanish too, my way of communicate my ideas is more concise and at the time of having a large speech I fail almost always. I'd also like to practice for another certification exam because it would help me to get a better preparation.
