Red Queen Characters Favorite Sweet Treats!

Cal - He probably cast a spell to make you crave sweet things, honestly. Cal's favorite food is cake and ice cream. Specifically, caramel ice cream. Another favorite is when he gets donuts

Mare - Anything pumpkin. Pumpkin chocolate chip brownies are her absolute favorite. And she's always the first to slice up the pumpkin pie during holidays. Ruth and Daniel would watch her race her brothers for it growing up. Cal also always gets her a blueberry donut when he gets a box of them

Maven - He doesn't strike me as a sweets person. Usually he would have a dessert with his dinner only if it was already provided by the kitchen, and even then it would be a small portion just because he prefers savory. I do see him as a big fan of cheesecake. Also, I headcanon that his favorite fruit is a raspberry, so if there's a raspberry dessert available, that is one thing he will go out of his way to order

Farley - She likes pie. Her favorites are cherry and coconut. When they go to gas stations she will usually get those little mini pies as one of her upcoming meals, even though she knows they're not as good as homemade ones

Kilorn - Anything and everything. But mainly cookies. When Ruth would make cookies she would set aside a plate for him to take home

Gisa - Strawberry shortcake or brownies

Evangeline - Chocolate coated fruit is her go-to. Think Tru Fru or dark chocolate bananas

The number one most common was that Cal thought Maven was far too critical. Both are realists, because that's how they were raised, but Cal's approach to everything was to approach it with the hopes of improvement. Maven as a teen would see it how it was. Not what it could be.

Especially in the times when Cal was overwhelmingly stressed about something (more often than not dealings in the war or political decision making, or any sort of standard he was being held to) he found Mavens negativity to be inches away from him boiling over. In his mind Maven could have easily been helpful by offering hope (like he was used to with Julian) but instead just made his anxiety worse.

- He's very good at remembering his own personal information or that of someone else, but with legal documents and things of that nature, he is shit. He takes pictures of them and keeps them in a saved album on his phone. He doesn't care that it's not the most secure place in the world, it's the only place where he can easily look back and be able to remember what they are

- As a kid, he was standing with his family after travel and they were near a pond/park. A goose snuck up behind him and wouldn't leave him alone. To this day he has a fear of geese

- In elementary school, he only got three signings in his yearbook besides the teachers. Cal and Elane, and one boy he occasionally talked to

- He is very bad at knowing how to respond to jokes

I like to think that Maven started using pet names even as a child because it was his way of seeming "nice" and making a good impression on people. Elara never ever addressed people other than by their name/title, and neither did any of his family, so he thought a way he could stand out was to say things like: "Good evening dearest Mrs. (Name)" Or "well if it isn't the darling General (name)" and it was a way for him to be smiled at. And when it worked, he seemed to be praised more often than ever.

What changed was that when he got a bit older he started seeing it as cringe. It's that feeling when you think about something you did as a kid to get attention. He got the ick from the memories. But he still had the habit. Now, though, that instinct only came out when he was annoyed, and he used them to be condescending rather than praising.

In both cases he still uses it for validation without realizing it. When he was younger he wanted to be remembered instead of ignored. When he was older he did not want the other person to have the upper hand so he pulled a pet name as a way to minimize or tease them.

Mare:

"Gave my heart with zero stipulations, now I take careful consideration" - expectations

"And here's the part where the girl gets pissed, and the girl is me, did you get that hint?" - my way

"So I'm patient, you're learning, pretend it's not hurting" - begged

Cal:

"LOOKING LIKE AN ANGEL ON THE WALLS OF VERSAILLES" - drop dead

"You should feel how I feel when somebody says your name" - stupid song

"I'm a car speeding down the boulevard without a break" - stupid song

Maven:

"I had big dreams until I tied myself to you" - purple

"I thought we played the perfect couple... Til' you didn't want the part" - cigarette smoke

"Tell me something honest so the memories turn dark" - cigarette smoke

"My head is spinning and my stomach is sick" - what's wrong with me (because he thinks Cal is a bad pilot and always gets motion sick 💀)

Farley:

and then he comes out of his garage smelling like sweat and motor oil because he hasn't showered yet after working on his cycle, and he tells a lame joke that no one laughs at. Then he runs into a wall because he was staring at Mare and not paying attention.
