Mare Barrow has been spotted by fellow Scarlet Guard members screaming songs from the new album "You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So In Love" during various tasks, unaware that others could hear.
Soldiers say she will be dancing one minute and crying the next. Telling husband Cal Calore, and I quote: "I love you baby, I promise" And immediately after, telling longtime friend Kilorn Warren to supposedly "drop dead"
"I would say she looks blue, but it's more like purple", a source says.
When asked if she was okay, she reportedly responded: "I feel dirty, I feel rotten, and the colors are all flat. I'm a sad shell of a woman, and I've got maggots for brains"
Concern from fans grows as the lightning girl continues to unravel. Our reporters have contacted her, only to be responded with: "you're in my way now" and "I feel right, I feel wrong, I feel totally insane"
The only public appearance she has made in the past 24 hours was when she was seen carving out names in car seat leather while "blasting" yacht rock music. When surrounded, she screamed "fuck it, whatever" before getting into the car and speeding down the boulevard without a break.
We can only imagine what Mare is thinking now, while her head is spinning and stomach is sick. What is wrong with her? What kind of cigarette smoke could possibly be fogging her brain? She's overwhelmed; she's underfed.
If only we could be there to witness her devotion, and nurture her endless well of needs until she feels like this less. But even that will never be the cure.
While Mare Barrow navigates this swing of feelings and emotions, our only expectations are that time will heal all wounds. Her close friends will be studiously monitoring her behavior, considering just one week ago she was looking like an angel on the walls of Versailles. Red Queen Ability Headcanons!
- Kilorn gets annoyed carrying garbage around, say he took his meal with him while walking and finished it, so when he's done he gives a "...hey, Mare? 😏" and she takes the garbage, throws it up in the air and hits it with lightning so it combusts and he doesn't have to carry it anymore. She does that with a lot of their stuff
- The first time Mares family saw them do that casually they had to take a moment to collect themselves and stop their eyes from being so wide
- As a silver, just because you're around other types of abilities more often doesn't mean you aren't sometimes afraid of them. For example, burners are likely to be nervous around a nymph because fire and water don't mix. My headcanon is that Maven doesn't like being around strong arms because he doesn't like things that look "unnatural". And he gets insecure around anyone with bigger muscles than him because of experiences with Cal.
- Elane will use Eves reflective metal for a mirror when she needs to redo her makeup
I was thinking about what the brothers would think about their grandpa if he were still alive when they were growing up and thought I would ask the queen 🫢
I do think they would like him a lot more than they liked Tiberias. You do have to think in this scenario how it would have affected their father and his parenting. Most of his change in personality came from Corianes death, but we know that losing his own dad + Robert a few months later must have impacted him a ton as well. Would he have been different to Cal and Maven if they were still alive, and helping him?
I believe Maven would have loved both of them. I mean, Robert loved the arts. Maven would have someone to connect through that with. Not to mention that they were (semi-openly) gay, and Maven could have been more confident in coming out as bi to them or opening up about Thomas. Even Elara would have to compete for the advice game for Maven with those two because I feel like he would have just adored them.
However, as it goes with Elara, I do fear that she would often try to get in the way and paint them to be villains if she saw something she didn't like. And let's be honest- Elara doesn't like most things unless they come out of her own mouth -_-
As for Cal, I definitely think he appreciates having any family whatsoever. Considering that most of his family members were either distant or plotting to kill him for several years, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a little trip to go see Grandpa 😬 and I think that Tiberias was so focused on building Cal up to be this general and glory-chasing killer king that his grandpa would be able to remind him that not only is victory and strength important, but rest is too. They would prioritize mental health days just as much as any work day.
Headcanon for Cals and Farley's (pre)friendship:
While Mare was in her coma and the crew was hiding out, Cal somehow overheard a private conversation between Shade and Farley where Shade called her "Diana" (since he is the only one who does it)
When she came back out and was maybe sorting through something in the room Cal was in, he asked: "Would you rather me call you Farley, or Diana?"
They hadn't had any one-on-one conversation up to this point. It's all been in a group.
She is quiet for a moment, a bit conflicted at the thought of him knowing her name now, and simply responds "Farley."
He nods, and he says: "I will respect your privacy and call you Farley if you will respect my wishes as well, and not call me 'Tiberias' or 'prince'.
And that was the first agreement between Farley and Cal. Both of them respected each other's nicknames, and even though it took more months after that to establish a friendship, that was their first sign of respect for each other.
As you see in the tags, this made me think so much to show what a great post this is^^°
Their relatiosnhip is so interesting because they were enemies and both experienced soldiers now working together respectfully AND facing the loss of loved ones (while Mare is imprisoned) and Cal would be so cute with Clara. Only that Cal is cute with all children and Farley just for Clara and Cal would be so understanding and supporting when she melts for her baby (and needs more time for Clara).
(Oh my dear imagine Cal defending Farley when the Guard or the colonel complain when she doesn't meet her "goals" because of pregnancy/baby - so chivalric he would be)

I definitely think he had an inkling. Whatever conversation he overheard them talking about wouldn't be a definite giveaway to their relationship like if they were saying "oh my God my baby lets get married and have a whole little fade family 🥺" because that's just not how Farley and Shade are.
Maybe there were hints of flirting, but they were still at that point keeping it more of a casual/testing things out sort of thing rather than a definite relationship. They first brought up the possibility of officially dating at the very beginning of Glass Sword but I believe they didn't put labels on it until they got to the Notch.
So, Cal isn't THAT clueless. He is very alert and observant. (Other than with his own family. But if he was with a group of previous enemies, you can bet your ass he's going to read between the lines) At the very least, he could sense that they were very close friends. And often picked up on their romance when around them.
I think when Mare found out, after her awkward run-in with Shade ("Afraid I'm not getting my workout in, Mare? 😏" - Shade Hayes Barrow) she went and told Cal about it as if bewildered. And Cal was just smiling at her, saying things like "I think it's been obvious since the first time we've seen them together."

i wish we got some extra info on some of the other kingdoms other than norta, the lakelands and montfort. like i love you guys but i know jack shit about the other lands
there MIGHT be more info in the books than i remember since im in desperate need for a reread since i have the memory capacity of a fruit fly, but from what i remember we get very little to no detail about other lands at all
since i started loving red queen ive loved the idea of the Prairie Lands and how it's a feudal kraterocracy (checked the wiki seven times to spell check that) but there is very little actually given to us besides the names of the warlords and ladies and the lands and all that
and dont even get me started on the disputed lands (which is an area of land between the Prairie Lands, Norta, the Lakelands and Piedmont)... this is so cool hello
do we ever get any info on the disputed lands? i dont think we do since i dont remember squat about it and only found out about it through research i did for an oc. then again, like i said, i have the memory of a fruit fly when it comes to miniscule details so i wouldn't be surprised if mare had a 7 minute long conversation with someone about it and 12 year old me skimmed to get to the maven part

anyhoo i guess i can't be too upset because it gives me the chance to use my own creativity to further expand on the topic. might make a few oc series' based off of my own interpretation of each land from the little we were given (I haven't forgotten about you Tiraxes)
another thing that interests me is outside kingdoms on the global scale... does everyone in this futuristic america land know that there are other continents with potentially other lands, or what??? i doubt that they've stayed put this entire time, especially the Lakelanders with their abilities in the water. or do we need Silver Christopher Columbus or something to go looking?? another option could be that they just don't care. like "hey i have my kingdom which i rule over with an iron fist, money, food and endless amounts of opportunity, im not about to waste it going to look for other lands!"
of course julian has maps and all that but with the lack of outside people being mentioned i dont know whether it's because they are already in communication and have been for ages or if it's just "we know about you but dont really care"
then again we're talking about Silvers here, they obviously care when it comes to money and land

I've had Instagrams for each character forever, and I know that there is an app where you can actually make Instagrams for them but I've tried it before and it takes freaking forever. - Shade wasn't so sure about Cal at first when they first brought him along to steal the jet, but the moment they finally started to open up to each other was when Mare was in her coma and neither of them would leave her side for the first few days. They talked, mostly about random things, started out with stories and jokes about Mare before it developed into actually getting to know each other. By that point they were better off than before but didn't become real friends until they got to the Notch
- He and Mare invited them out to dinner with them for New Years. It was one of the first times they all had been together, and it gave them a sense of being a whole family unit again while including Cal
- Cal and Daniel will talk about documentaries, recommending them to each other and having sometimes hour-long discussions over things they learned. Ruth and Mare will hear them yapping to each other from the other room and roll their eyes with a smile
- Clara's favorite subject is science and she's in a robotics club when she's elementary age. Cal goes over and helps her with projects :)

Mare and Cal - Yet again, one was hiding something from the other
Maven and Iris - They can't remember because there have been so many
Eve and Elane - Family drama creeping its way in. They felt like they had to pick sides
Farley and Shade - they had opposing views on how something should be run, and it started out as a debate until it just kept snowballing into every aspect of their lives
Cameron and Kilorn - Kilorn was being "too clingy" so Cameron went out on a walk to get some alone time... But then his dog ran away and they couldn't find him anywhere. Cameron was actually getting scared for the first time ever of Kilorn being angry because of how upset he was
Cori and Tibe - About Cal's future, and that whole promise they made to the high houses that Cal would marry into them no matter what
Julian and Sara - It was just after Cori had been killed, and Sara wanted to flee the country, but Julian wouldn't leave Cal. She said that Cal would be safer away from Elara. He said that they wouldn't be able to get away safely after basically kidnapping Cal. It was a whole unspoken "what if" scenario that they both knew would never happen
Ruth and Daniel - Daniel lost money they were saving for months for Christmas. They were almost to their goal so they could get something decent for each child, but Daniel moved the hiding spot after Bree found it and then forgot where it was. They think it may have been thrown away accidentally. Daniel felt SO guilty and Ruth was SO upset
