My thing with recommending Supernatural to people is like ... I really enjoy the last few seasons, I think theyāre very well done. They have a lot of nostalgic callbacks to earlier seasons. The pattern of a Supernatural filler episode is so familiar itās almost comforting in itās predictability. And its so interesting to see how far the characters have come in their personal arcs, especially how they are all reflected in Jack in one way or another.Ā
But it wouldnāt be nearly as good if you didnāt watch the seasons that came before. You wouldnāt have the context and memories and emotional attachment needed to really enjoy them. But from what I remember of the first few seasons, they were INCREDIBLY cheesy. I remember once trying to rewatch the first season and I literally couldnāt because it was just soooo 2005. So I canāt really honestly recommend anyone watch it.Ā
Seasons 4 and 5 were good.Ā
But, I genuinely hated most of seasons 7-10. The Leviathans, Purgatory, the major character deaths, demon!dean... I didnāt want any of it. The whole time I was just missing the earlier seasons. Although most of my favorite characters were introduced in that time (Charlie, Kevin, etc) they also mostly all died, so it feels a little disingenuous to tell my friends and family to watch something I didnāt really enjoy.Ā Ā
But without all of that time, seasons 11-15 mean nothing. You wouldnāt understand the emotional impact of Lucifer being freed, of getting their mom back, or the true weight of the words of advice and counsel they offer to Jack. None of it would really matter.Ā
But with the context, itās SOOOO good, and I love these boys so much. I want people to appreciate the last few seasons, but you have to know the whole story. And I just canāt ask anyone to watch 15 seasons of a show that was so hit-and-miss, even if they ending is worth it (I really hope the ending is worth it Iām only halfway through season 14 rn)
