Dewey's April 2021: Prep
It’s that time again, and as per usual, I’m doing everything at the very last minute. I picked my TBR and snacks kinda late and I should be in bed right now because I have to be up at 0’dark-thirty to get to work early, so I can get out early enough to participate in at least half of the readathon. I’m so busy and exhusted these days that I’m half-assing just about everything, including this…

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon [April 2020]: Prep
It’s time again! Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon is this Saturday, April 25th, 08:00 EST. Sadly, this may also be the last. I’m going to enjoy this like it is the last one, but I’m going to do my best not to dwell on the sadness, because there’s enough of that going around in general.
Since this is the Pandemic Read-a-thon, my theme is obviously apocalypse/post apocalyptic books. And somehow…

Dewey’s Read-a-thon [October 2019]: Prep
It’s that time again! Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon is here and as usual, I waited until the last minute to create a TBR. I had an idea that I would pick horror/thrill because that’s what I usually do for October. So here is it:
Alice by Christina Henry Red Queen by Christina Henry Lost Boy by Christina Henry The Girl In Red by Christina Henry The Mermaid by Christina Henry Army Of Darkness…

Dewey’s Reverse Read-a-thon: Prep
It’s that time again! I’ve been looking forward to this since last year. I really enjoyed the different start time.
I picked a crappy week to feel bad though. I’m feeling out of sorts physically and yesterday, of all days, my eye picked to drop a floater. It’s gonna take a few weeks for it to drop out of my line of vision and that’s just gonna annoy me while reading. I have queued up a few…

BookTube-A-Thon 2018 TBR
It's that time of year again! And what better way to get back to tumblr (and reading for that matter). But TBR pile? Who freaking knows...
Check out BookTubeAThon’s challenge video here.
Challenges:
1. Let a coin toss decide your first read.
- The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
- The Night Circus by Eric Morgenstern
*Depends on the toss*
2. Read a book about something you want to do.
- Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
because let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to go to Camp Half-blood and train?
3. Read and Watch a book to movie adaptation.
- Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
4. Read a book with green on the cover.
- Howl's Moving Castle by Diane Wynne Jones maybe
5. Read a book while wearing the same hat the whole time.
- DC Rebirth TPB; undecided on which one since I’m so far behind. Maybe Titans Vol. 2 or Batman Vol. 4
6. Read a book with a beautiful spine.
- Cinder by Melissa Meyer
7. (And as always) Read seven books.
- Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
**Most likely to be changed as the week progresses. Never really know what I'm in the mood to read lately

Readathon Prep
With Dewey’s readathon being this Saturday, I think it’s about time to start thinking about how that day’s going to go.
Books: Who knows! I’m gathering up a handful while typing this up, but here’s the catch. You need to have alternates. If you go in with a set TBR list, you’re likely to wind up in a rut, and with only 24 hrs to this challenge a rut is the last place you want to end up. Creating a reading list a head of time is important, but don’t feel like you have to stick to it. Have others read to go. I.e. short novels, children books, or even some favorite rereads. They really help to pull you out of the trenches and back to reading. I have Maximum Ride, Peter Pan, and The Giver already on standby.
P.s. reading to kids counts! Love reading a book with my sister, and it counts as a book for each of us.
Reading Stations: Where to read? I like to set up some areas the night before so they’re ready to go. Start out in my favorite chair, then when I get antsy take a quick break before moving to my bed or outside to my spot by the tree. Changing scenery and positions helps a ton! Just make sure to check this spots out ahead of time, especially when going outside, otherwise you could wind up sitting in something...unpleasant. This is more likely to happen when you’re halfway through the readathon, getting a little weary, and don’t even notice you’re about to sit in some major bird poo.
Snacks: It’s always handing to gather food and drinks before the readathon begins. I like taking some trail mix or a few jellybeans or almonds and putting them into several snack-size baggies next to some water bottles/Gatorade that way whenever I get the munchies or need a drink I can just grab a set and go.
It helps to have meals planned this way for the day as well. Something quick and easy to grab and go. It might come to needing the break however and actually making something to eat could help distract from the reading long enough to regain your bearings. All depends on the person and where they’re at in their day.
Also coffee. Lots of coffee. And tea. Lots of coffee and tea.
Breaks!: Breaks are extremely important. They help you to refresh so you can get the most reading done. I usually set a a few stations like back in elementary school. One of my favorites is the nail station. My little sister and I paint each others nails and talk, great way to get your mind of things for a bit and it helps her regain her focus (she reads with me almost every time). Any activity you enjoy will help. Sometimes her and I will make book marks that way if we don’t finish the last book of the day, we have a brand new pretty bookmark to fill its pages.
Important thing to remember, and I have to remind myself of this often, is to just have fun with it! If you’re break turns into the end of you’re marathon, oh well. You still had fun right?
