Ravka’s police state must be as incompetent as the one of the late russian empire, ok they did kill but they also arrested the same person nearly a dozen times and not put an end to them.

Fjerda being based on Norway and Finland when neither of those countries were known for rivalry/wars with Russia, like Finland was a part of Sweden than Sweden lost the war and became part of russia(very simplified i know)
Like if you want germanic nation with rivalry/rocky relationship, Germany(Prussia) and Sweden are right there not Norway.
Cities, Ravka’s Cities (plus Ketterdam) are based on
Moscow-Os Alta, the capital despite Moscow not being russian capital before civil war
St.Petersburg-Os Kervo
Novosibirsk-Novokribirsk (which in the time s&b plays didn’t exist)
Amsterdam-Ketterdam
From Moscow to Volgograd
From Volgograd to Yekaterinburg
From Minsk to Nizhny Novogrod
In Ukraine(I made it a bit bigger)
In Europe
On Lenin’s forehead (I did not alter it)
In Stalin’s stache
Above Lenin and Stalin
I swear this was suppose to be serious criticism till it wasn’t
Ruin and Rising- Chapter 10 (Leigh Bardugo)
What a load of crap!
How long have you known the Darkling, Alina?! How far does your "always" reach? The only compulsion we've witnessed ON PAPER is Alina's drive to kill 'em all.
And it started quite well, only to go completely downhill after two sentences.
This isn't just about the blockade... Yes, because a good leader rarely does something for a single reason. He needs to close as many fronts as possible, regain access to western resources and unify the country he's supposed to rule, so he can defend it against its external enemies without worrying about getting stabbed while undressing.
He wants to use the Fold. It's not about some sort of need to prove himself something. The Darkling has exactly one (1) card to play. A single resource nobody else can access or turn against him. Unlike Alina, he doesn't have the luxury of being able to sit back and let others deal with the pesky reality. If he's to end the wars and drag Ravka out of the morass it currently resides in, he HAS TO work with what he has. And I've already listed how little that is.
Once again Alina judges him by herself. It's her own urges she projects on him, incapable to conceive someone might treat power as a tool, not a drug.
Sure. And how exactly did you come to these conclusions? The last time I checked Nikolai knew the Darkling even less than Alina, but because Alina just claimed something, the world's about to end by the hand of a megalomaniac.
One would think someone as clever as Nikolai would be familiar with the concept of NOT relying on a single biased source.

Ruin and Rising- Chapter 10 (Leigh Bardugo)
Massive desertions?
Deserters, possibly loyal to the Lantsovs to boot?! The Darkling really sucks as a ruthless dictator. Where are the public executions that would've been justifiable under "normal" circumstances, since Ravka's at active war?
These people are not just refusing obedience to the Darkling- by abandoning their posts near the borders, they're actively choosing to leave their country vulnerable to its permanent enemies, who are constantly raiding the areas. Whoever dares to live there is simply screwed, because the forces assigned to their protection decided they don't like the new guy on the top, so fuck their duty! But hey- we'll never see those affected by this occurrence, so don't worry about it, kitten! The "heroes" don't either.
The grishaverse hold on monarchy reminds me of that person who said the abolishing monarchy enabled dictatorships in 20th century when this only could apply to Germany and the Soviet Union, since Italy kept its monarchy till 1946/1947 and Franco reinstalled the monarchy.
Not even is this true about Germany and USSR cause both of those infamous dictatorships weren’t enabled by abolishing the monarchy but by World War 1 and everyone wanting to start war
Funfact: Kaiser Wilhelm II died 18 days before the german invasion of the ussr
Ravka having no Caucasus bugs me for some reason cause the Caucasus since it conquest has been so important to Russia/USSR
