At long last, I present to you my most recent reverie of fur and flesh ~ Rabbits and hares with antlers have been part of Scandinavian and European folklore for over half a millennia with the first images of them appearing in illustrated manuscripts from the Middle Ages, particularly in Germany. These mythical creatures have proven to be as enduring as they are enchanting and went on to become part of American pop-culture as well. They hold a special place in my heart because they are the marriage of my central companion spirit (rabbits) and my love of make-believe beasts. Each part of the world has their own name for this hybrid but the symbolism of the 2 species it combines is universal. Rabbits and stags have mystical powers in many cultures, both symbolizing renewal, prosperity, luck, and are guides on spiritual journeys. I wanted to create a piece where the essence of one species flowed into the other. My design needed to be the embodiment of the gracefulness the two animals share. So I looked to medieval tapestries with their stylized representations of hares and stags – the stag with its head thrown back and the hare in mid-leap. To give it a regal feel I perched it atop an ornately scrolled metal base reminiscent of the decor of that era. To all the people who think Jackalopes are lowbrow, I beg to differ. May I introduce their Bavarian kin – The Rasselbock

What a rascal
Took an art fight break to work on personal art! Here is my new, secondary fursona, Rascal. He’s kinda like the impulsive devil on my shoulder. ADHD rep ✊🐰
#Repost @craftwithkup Oans, zwoa, drei, g’suffa! Ten Mile does Oktoberfest right! 🇩🇪🍻🌭🍕🐶 I feel a big ole stein of Raising Helles is mandatory (and delicious). Rasselbock served up some killer brats and potato salad, and the Flammkuchen, Ten Mile's German-inspired pizza, with bacon, caramelized onions, muenster, and crème fraiche was amazing. (I know it was a one-day thing, but I'd love to see them sneak it back into the menu here and there.)😉 Also, thanks to Bark! Bark! doggy daycare for sponsoring Wiener Dog Race and coming with the swag. Is there any other heraldic ocs?
This isn't heraldry per se, but you did remind me that I have this unfinished four-person team of mythical rabbit based mobians! In order from left to right they're a Skvader, a Jackalope, a Wolpertinger and a Rasselbock! While I was doing research for these I learned that Jackalopes are actually supposed to be depicted with antelope horns, hence the name (jackrabbit+antelope), and that then being depicted with deer horns is technically a *Rasselbock* instead. This information haunts me, because now I'm gonna be ever-so-slighty bothered whenever I see a deer-horned jackalope image, so I'm cursing you all with the knowledge too<3
