I definitely wanted to see Rainbow Row, and I happened to catch it during golden hour, but because the sun didn’t quite hit it at a direct angle, the effect made everything feel slightly de-saturated and ethereal.
This row of townhomes painted in various pastel colors dates back to the late 1700s, and has gone through ebbs and flows before finally being saved by preservationist Susan Pringle Frost. She bought several of the buildings (which had fallen on hard times by the early 1900s), restored their original colors, and soon after they were christened “Rainbow Row,” followed by a historic designation by the National Parks Service in 1938.
I mean, if you’re in Charleston, you should try to see these lovely homes!
