BookReview Man am I happy that I got the chance to read this book. I am at a lost really on how to explain this book. It's not that it is bad because it's not its intriguing. It's one of those books you start to read and think there's no way I'm going to finish this and the next thing you know you have finished. This book is like being inside a writer's head when he or she is getting ready to write a book. They have a list of characters they want in the book so they start interviewing them. While the characters are being interviewed, they are telling the writer all these different stories. I donât know if I'm describing it right but it really was a different read. One I would recommend to someone that is looking for something different to read because this book is definitely unique. Happy reading everyone! #rachelcusk #outlinebook #contemporarynovels #goodreads #picardobooks #adultfictionbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CPukGk5jgyt/?utm_medium=tumblr
hated this at first. cuskâs style is detached and cold, keeping her reader at an armâs distance. however, after re-reading outline for a university project, iâve learnt to love it. her use of distance seems less like hostility and more like self preservation. the lack of emotion in particular scenes manages to draw the reader closer, as we insert ourselves into the narrative. the setting of greece is moreover a perfect choice. 4/5 âď¸ #bookstagram #book #books #rachelcusk #rachelcuskoutline #englishliterature #greece #fiction #outline https://www.instagram.com/p/CKJm84NFf1s/?igshid=1u973m2h4l6vn

I said that while her story suggested that human lives could be governed by the laws of narrative, and all the notions of retribution and justice that narrative lays claim to, it was in fact merely her interpretation of events that created that illusion. The coupleâs divorce, in other words, had nothing to do with her secret envy of them and her desire for their downfall: it was her own capacity for storytelling â which, as I had already told her, had affected me all those years ago â that made her see her own hand in what happened around her. Yet the suspicion that her own desires were shaping the lives of other people, and even causing them to suffer, did not seem to lead her to feel guilt. It was an interesting idea, I said, that the narrative impulse might spring from the desire to avoid guilt, rather than from the need â as was generally assumed â to connect things together in a meaningful way; that it was a strategy calculated, in other words, to disburden ourselves of responsibility.

She couldnât describe what had happened, to herself or to other people. She talked about it, sure enough, talked about it incessantly â but in all her talk the thing itself remained untouched, shrouded and mysterious, inaccessible.
