Title: Sandy Stretches, Lonely Lives Chapter: [x] About:Â This is an original story that I am far too embarrassed to talk about publicly. If you have questions or need answers please send an ask and I will answer immediately. All you need to know: This is planet earth. Almost one hundred years after a natural disaster, people have begun to build new lives. North America is divided into irregular thirds - the Western Sweep, the Central Sweep, and the Eastern Sweep. Each section of the country has vastly different subcultures ranging from warrior-type castes who live in secrecy; groups of tightly-knit friends and family living underground; middle-class residents just living like they did âa hundred years ago (i.e. us); nomadic groups moving around the country; and even rich aristocrats living in high rises. These story chapters are sections of plot-and-character development. Sweep: Western POV:Â 3rd

Now, during the Christmas party, no one is safe from the mistletoe ambushes. A/N: I donât know some of the characttesr well, so I probably will mischaracterize some at any given time just for the record POV: Semi-limited 3rd, it switches around often A/N/2:Â haha this is such a stupid title and i don't even care

Now, during the Christmas party, no one is safe from the mistletoe ambushes. POV: Somewhat limited 3rd - constantly switching A/N: Some foreign languages don't have a proper google translate equal for 'butt' or 'behind.' It is not my fault. Also two titles because I made myself cry laughing over Mistle Command after Chuck vs. Tom Sawyer sO I'M NOT SORRY

Title: A Walk in the Snow Chapter: [x][2] Fandom: Rev-M Characters: Drift, West, mentions of Yuu, Slate, Ruin, Sam, Shift, Switch, Lucas, Aiko, Rayk, Kayr, lots of others⌠Pairings: Mostly just Drifting Ham, some Yuu<>Ruin, bits and pieces of others⌠AU: Nothing Special Rating: K+ Iâd say nothinâ too terrible in here⌠until they freeze to death but HEYYYYY why not!Â
âDonât forget the walking sticks, Drift!â called Westie. He was already outside the door, taking Slushie his medicine. Heâd come down with a Polar Bear Cold. It was real sad, but Wolfram said that heâd be fine, anâ I trusted him.
âI got âem!â I called back, running back down the hallway, through the kitchen where Switch, Sam, and Shift were preparing breakfast. Itâd take âem awhile, as they were makinâ M&M pancakes from scratch. They were some kind of good! Sam had come up with it sometime, and he taught Switch, and Shift didnât mind takinâ a â hee â well, a shift in the kitchen. They made the batter from scratch, and then did a whole lotta stuff to it. It took them almost 3 hours to have them all ready for us. I never did grasp the basics oâ cookinâ so I didnât normally mess with it.
âHave fun on your walk!â Sam called with a smile and a wave, his hands covered by pot-holder-gloves that were quite possibly too small for his hands.
âThanks, Sammy!â I hollered back, dashing through the next set of corridors, past the library with my scarf a-flyinâ, and hat a-wavinâ. The walking sticks were in a broom closet down by Westâs room. Weâd stashed âem there because some of the younger kids wanted ta play with âem, and they were pointy on one end, so Alex suggested we put âem someplace they wouldnât normally be.
So, thatâs why they were in the closet! Weâd just forgotten âem after weâd gotten all bundled up. I skidded to a stop outside Westie and Yuuâs room, just in time for Yuu to roll out on his skateboard. âAh!! Yuu, look out!!â I screamed, trying to backpedal as fast as I could.
But I was too late.
âBwah, Driftu!!â Yuu shouted, bringinâ us both down. âOwwwâŚâ he groaned, rubbing his head, his skateboard pressing painfully under my ribs, the wheels still spinninâ.
âOuch⌠Sorry, Yuu. I didnât mean ta take ya down with meâŚâ I stammered, groaning as I stood up. My knee sorta hurt from where Iâd bumped it, and torn a small hole in the fabric of the leggings I wore from the truck on Yuuâs board.
âI-Itâs⌠okay,â he stuttered, face bright red. Just as he began brushing himself off and checking his skateboard, Ruin came jogging down the hall.
âHoly crapola, you okay, Yuu?â she asked, looking concerned, her short hair stowed away under a beanie, her own board tucked under her arm. She reached down and pulled him up, not giving the taller boy much say in the matter.
âYeah! Iâm fine!â he chirped before shooting me a backwards glance before dropping his board down and giving it a onceover. I didnât understand skateboards much, either. Ruin turned back and smiled at me amiably.
âYou sure youâre okay, Yuu?â I asked, concerned. I really hadnât meant to bowl him over. It was a complete accident!
He kept muttering to himself under his breath, eyes squinted almost shut as he leaned down and experimentally turned one of the wheels. Ruin winked at me and gave me a brief thumbs-up. âOh, yeah, heâs fine. No worries, Drift,â she told me in her lower voice, smirkinâ crookedly.
âCâmon, Yuu, letâs get going. We gotta start now, or else weâll never finish the rat-path by breakfast! Symâs waiting by the path,â she urged, nearly dragging Yuu away by the arm.
âAck! Iâm cominâ, Iâm cominâ!! Weâve still got two hours, at least!â he retorted, lunging down to grab his board before they took off down the hall, Yuuâs face still bright red.
I giggled at them before turning around and opening the closet door. Immediately, I was met by two aggressive brooms. âOw!â I squawked, rubbing my forehead in pain. Sighing, I reached down to grab the two offenders. I shook my head at mâ own clumsiness and stuck âem back in. I saw the walking sticks immediately. I snatched âem and shut the door real quick.
âA-A-Are⌠y-you o-okay, Drift?â came a quiet voice from behind. I turned around right quick and saw Slate pokinâ his adorable little beak out from the doorway. He looked concerned, but that mightâve just been his default expression, the adorable little guy.
âYeah, Iâm fine, Slate, thanks for askinâ!â I responded, smilinâ and holding up the walkinâ sticks as way of explanation. He blinked, sort of smiled a little, and then backed up into his room. I thought I caught a glance of a spoon with⌠peanut butter and sunflower seeds on it⌠before he slipped back inside.
I glanced at the digital clock that glowed from inside one of the bedrooms and saw the time. Oh, darn! Iâd already taken much longer ân I thought Iâd take! âAhhh, Iâm coming! I swear, Westie!â I murmured to myself, throwinâ the brooms back into the closet again and slamminâ the door with my foot. Scoopinâ up the walkinâ sticks, I started runninâ towards the hallway.
I got stopped by Lucas anâ Aiko. Lucas was covered in snow, anâ Aiko was laughinâ herself into a dither. âL-Lucas!!â she stammered, gigglinâ and a-hootinâ. I tried to slip by âem, but Lucas was turninâ himself âround and âround in circles and I had no idea what he was doing. I stumbled past âem, havinâ to squeeze by before jogging down the hallway.
Running back the way I came, I took a sidepath that went behind the kitchen and out the back door. By the time I got outside, I saw Westie closinâ the barn door and coming back towards the house, grinning. âFind them okay?â he called, waving a mitten-bound hand at me. I smiled and waved them above my head.
âSure did!â I shouted back, running forward towards him. He smiled and held out a hand. As I deposited a stick into his hand, and kept the other he glanced over at me.
âYouâve got the parkas and stuff?â he asked again, triple-checking.
âYeah, I set âem down over closer to thâ path,â I explained. It was easier leavinâ âem there than in my room where I mightâve forgotten. I didnât really need one, but I figured that havinâ one - in case of emergency - was better than not bringinâ one at all. Westie had actually talked me into it, just in case of emergency.
My normal body temperature was much, much below the point where a normal human could stay alive. I dunno why, but I guess I was more tolerable of cold than others. That didnât mean I still couldnât get cold, though. If I used mâ powers, or if I got tired, I got cold really quick. Shift said somethinâ âbout how it might be related to my immune system? I didnât really understand, but that was fine with me. I donât understand a lot of things, and I still get by.
Westie and I took off running âcross the property, heading for where the parkas were, in one oâ the back doorways to the house - the door closest to the path.
We picked âem up right quick and then started off. âThis is gonna be fun, huh, Drift?â West asked, grinning over at me from under his wolf hat, gold eyes glowinâ.
âYep!â I chirped, smilinâ back. I tugged my white stockinâ hat over my head and rewrapped my scarf, since itâd gotten undone while I was careeninâ through the halls.
Weâd wanted to go hikinâ for awhile now - especially since it had just snowed and all! Westie had suggested it sort of in general a few days ago, before Slush got sick. Then, when he had, Westie was feelinâ a bit down, so Iâd tried to work it out so Kayr could cover my chores in the morning so we could go hiking. Kayr was sâposed to call me on the phones that Gauge, Moni and Trinkett had made when breakfast was about ready, anâ then weâd head back.
So far, itâd worked getting him a bit cheerier. It sort of made the whole house sad when Westie was sad. He just⌠sort of brought life to the house! He was everyoneâs best friend, and I knew that almost everyone would do anything for him!
I thought maybe heâd like to be in the snow. It seemed to cheer him up most days, so it was worth a shot!
~
Half an hour later, weâd started a good ways down the path. This particular place was a popular hiking spot when it wasnât wet or blucky outside. Kayr and I liked to run there a lot in the mornings, when he did his weird calisthenics thing. Sometimes Iâd go with him and Carrie⌠other times, Iâd make Rayk go instead, because he and Kayr seemed to want to like each other⌠but for weird reasons, they just didnât.
But thatâs not what I was out here for. I was out here today to make Westie feel better! He was lookinâ around excitedly, his cheeks all flushed, maybe from the cold, maybe from the fresh air?
The path we were on was mostly pretty flat, but there was an option to go up higher in the more mountainous areas, if you wanted more of a challenge. I liked the mountains, myself, because there was always snow up there, and the air was clean and cold and bright. Sometimes, like when we had blizzards and things, there were little avalanches, but they were controlled most of the time, and we didnât usually worry with them. We had enough people with enough specialized abilities that it was almost never a problem.
The sky was clear today, and we didnât much have to worry about snow.âThis is fun, huh, Drift?â West sounded happy. More happy and less worried. That was good.
âSure is, Westie,â I replied, shooting him a broad grin. âIâm glad it worked out!â
âYeah, me too,â he smiled, making a little grunt of effort as he hopped over a tree that had fallen over during the last snowstorm. âWe should do this more often!â
We stopped talking for a few minutes as we migrated towards the end of the ground path. It was fun, even though we kept trudging through the almost foot-deep snow to do it. That, I guess, is what the walkinâ sticks were for.
âHey, Drifter?â
âYeah, Westie?â
âDo you wanna take the high path? Itâs only been half an hour, and we still have at least two âtill breakfast?â Westie kept smilinâ and grinninâ like this was the best thing since⌠since⌠I dunno! But he kept smilinâ and that was good enough for me!
I grinned back anâ took a minute to adjust my hood on the vest I was wearinâ. âSure do, Westie! Dâyou know if the pathâs clear? Kayr went jogginâ a few weeks ago and said to watch out for the extra snowfallâŚâ
"Well," he started, his brow scrunchinâ up as he thought about it, âI think Switch and Shift went sledding a few days ago? So⌠if they went sledding, I think we could probably go walking!â He ended with a grin that lit up this half of the world. âAnd, hey! If we get stuck, we have you!â
Giggling, I flicked a finger towards the closest snow drift, directing a whoosh of snow towards Westie. He laughed and giggled as the snow tickled his face, and then made its way to the next bank of snow, being carried by the cold breeze for now.
His expression made me happy. âSounds great, then,â I answered him, smiling back. He shot me with a finger gun and smiled, his toothy grin shining against the white snow piled high on either side of us.
We walked in silence for awhile longer, sometimes bumping into each other as we trekked through the snow. It wasnât long before we got to the trail that took the higher paths, winding through the hills that turned more into small mountains the further you went on the paths. It was good for getting lost in thought.
While we were caught in a companionable silence, I let my thoughts wander off towards Kayr and Rayk again. I shouldnât have been dwelling on it - it went against my motto to not worry about things, but still⌠I couldnât help it.
Ever since weâd moved here to the house, Kayr had changed a little. Instead of the calm, cool, overall-relaxed personality Iâd known for a really, really, really long time⌠He was replaced by something else. Granted, he had had a temper when we were by ourselves, but it was so much different now. He was easily irritable. He was grouchy almost all the time, unless we were by ourselves. He holed himself in his room or outside, alone. He argued frequently, and he seemed to do things just to irritate people - Rayk, especially.
I got the feeling that they didnât get along⌠And Kayr didnât talk to me about it a lot, but I could gather some from what Galen had said, and what Shift had explained. (They welcomed me into the house when I first came, since people were more shocked that Kayr had an identical twin than the girl who travelled with him)
I guess since they were twins, they had competition when they were little. But then Shift had said they got along just fine, until they were separated. Supposedly, when they were, they drugged the three so much that they began to lose their memories of Kayr, while Kayr could remember every single one for years after that.
Kayr was supposedly the test subject for the Eraser-Avian program, when Rayk thought he was the first. Since Rayk was born first, I guess it was what made Kayr mad, that Rayk was so-called âtaking all the credit.â
I personally donât understand why Kayr thought that - who would want the credit? From what I understood it was a painful experience! Something no one would wish on their worst enemy!
But thatâs not how Kayr thought. Because he remembered them all for longer, when he was subjected to the mind-altering drug shortly before he was⌠changed⌠he forgot everyone, but had âphantom imagesâ and âstray thoughtsâ that would sometimes trigger by a sight or a sound or a smell or a taste, and then heâd flash back and sort of half-remember them. Thatâs why he ended up breaking out of the School - because the scientists lied to him. At least, thatâs what he told me, anyway.
And then, when he got back? He finally found his family? They didnât remember him. They wouldnât even have recognized him, had he not looked just like Rayk. I think it hurt him more than even he realized. Iâd been travelling with him for almost three years, non-stop. Iâd seen how he reacted in more situations than I could count. He was hurting.
But he wasnât really one to show emotion, so I guess his way of reacting was to turn off emotion and not try to get closer. He just argued and instigated fights. He was⌠well, I mean, heâd seemed so mature and wise when we were running. I guess he had large pockets of knowledge when it came to surviving and being okay when we were outside civilization. But when family came into thâ picture? He didnât know how to handle himself, so he regressed.
It makes me sad. Heâs like thâ big brother I didnât ever get to have, so seeing him turn into an arguinâ 8-year-old sometimes⌠It makes me so sad. I wanted him to be strong - like he used to be. In some ways, in mâ own opinion, he was stronger than Rayk. Because Kayr always knew how to take care of himself too. Rayk didnât know how to function when it came to him being alone. He cared about others, which was great, but⌠Rayk almost cared⌠too much. If it came down to it, I think heâd probably die a hundred times over just taking a risk that he could save someone he loved.
Kayr didnât have the same loyalty, and while he did understand family, and wanted to regrow the ties in his own way, heâd at least think it through before fixinâ to go and rescue a person.
I just⌠I saw the differences, and I saw ways of tryinâ to fix it. And then I realized that if I was to try, it wouldnât work out so good. And it made me very sad.
âDrift?â came Westieâs clear voice, brushinâ aside my negative thoughts.
I glanced over at him, stumbling for half a moment before catchinâ myself. âYeah?â I asked again, jerking my arm to get the walking stick out of the crack itâd slipped into. I pulled a bit too hard, and the ground around the crack broke further, makinâ me stumble.
A hand was on my shoulder, and then I found Westie makinâ sure I wasnât going to go fallinâ off the side of the trail. âI was just wondering if you were doing okay,â he chimed as I regained my balance.
I answered immediately: âSure I am!â At least⌠I was physically. I didnât have any broken bones, or bruises, and I was doing alright. Emotionally? EhâŚ
As we passed by the curve of one of the cliffs, Westie made a little âhmmmm...â sound and then looked over at me with those huge golden eyes. âOkayâŚâ he started, pausing for a few seconds, âSo⌠now how are you really doing?â
I almost tripped again. Iâm not the most coordinated person on the planet. I shot a sideways glance over at Westie, biting my lip a bit out of nervousness.
I coughed a bit, unable to fully process the question. âWhat dâyou mean, Westie?â
âWell⌠I mean, I know youâre trying to keep everyone happy right now⌠and itâs not much of a secret that Rayk and Kayr havenât been getting along as of late, so I figured⌠Youâre probably somewhere in the mix, right?â he asked, his tone one of quiet thoughtfulness, despite the minor panic that kept croppinâ up in my throat.
âAhh⌠Y-Yeah. Theyâve been arguinâ a lot lately⌠Kinda stressful,â I mumbled between huffs of breath, working my way up one of the steeper rock-stair-paths, Westie scrambling right beside me.
âSo⌠How does that affect you?â Westie piped up again, his voice slow and curious, though he didnât sound very nervous, like I was. Even though Westie was probably my closest friend, save Kayr usually, I still got kind of scared when he asked me how I felt about things. I didnât usually like to share my own thoughts.
Sighing, I hopped over a few scattered rocks in front of us, Westie climbing over âem, and landed on the other side, one knee banging on the ground.
Westie skidded a bit at the top of the rock mound, breathing hard, and slipped. He wouldâve landed on his behind, then rolled down the next hill, but I grabbed him by the shirt collar, holding him up while his feet backpedaled in the air.
âThanks, Drift,â he smiled, his breath misting in front of his face. Setting him back down on the slippery, ice-covered stair steps, the silence stretched out. West seemed to be thinking; I didnât know what about. âYou didnât answer my question,â he added at the end, looking over at me with those eyes that looked like he could read your mind.
âOh, right,â I mumbled, leaning against the frozen bark of a birch tree while West grabbed the canteen from his pack and drained the last bit. I made mental note of it - I had enough water for the rest of the trail, probably.
âI guess⌠I guess, I mean, Iâm just worried for âem⌠Kayr anâ Iâve been besties for a long time, and now Iâm starting to wonder if beinâ at this house is a good idea for us, or a bad oneâŚâ
Westie pursed his lips, staring thoughtfully down the trail a ways. âOkay, I see⌠But stop thinking about him for a minute - tell me about how you feel about all of this,â he asked, smiling over at me as he sat down on a boulder to retie his hiking boots.
I hooked my arm around the tree trunk and sighed, staring at the patterns in the snow, feeling the weight of the flakes beneath my feet. âItâs hard not to think about Kayr, to be honest,â I mumbled, liftinâ my shoulders in a shrug, feeling like I was drowning from all the emotions squirming around inside me. âWeâve been travelling around now for a long time - nearly 4 years, anâ now I have friends and stuff, and Kayr doesnât. I mean, I know heâs glad about findinâ his family, but it sorta was a problem when they didnât remember him, and I think sometimes he crumbles a little inside, yâknow? Theyâre all they have left, and he used to talk to me about it all the time.â I couldnât stop now.
âKayrâs become sorta destructive, and unless heâs exercising or carvinâ or doinâ something that distracts him, he gets in arguments all the time! He doesnât much talk to me anymore, and I get sad about that, âcause I mean, I donât feel like Iâve been much of a friend to him, anâ now with all his depression and stuff, I dunno what Iâm sâposed to do. Do I help him? How do I do it? I donât feel like I have all that many friends here, either,â at that I finally took a breath, sighing heavily and dropping down to sit slumping at the base of the tree.
Westie wiped his mouth off and dropped the canteen beside me, cominâ over to sit down next to me, shoulder to shoulder. âWhat about Cho? Sheâs kinda shy, but doesnât she hang around the exercise room a lot?â he asked, brows half-furrowed in a concerned look that made me sad. Why was he all concerned with me? This tripâd been organized to get him happy again!
âSure, I love Cho-san! But sheâs, like you said, kinda shy, and I worry about offendinâ her sometimes⌠Sheâs from Japan, and I donât know anythinâ about it⌠So I worry a lot about messinâ it up,â I sighed. I didnât have conversations a lot like this, but⌠around Westie, it wasnât all that bad. It got uncomfortable sometimes, seeinâ as how he magically saw through me half the time, but I guess he did it to everyone. It helped more than it hurt.
âSo⌠You get anxious about being a friend to him?â His tone was so innocent. He never accused or presumed he knew more ân he thought.
âI guessâŚâ I sighed again, dropping my vision to look across the path. Silence stretched out. I was used to it. They were never uncomfortable.
âYou know Iâm always here for you⌠right?â he asked, unexpectedly.
I blinked up at him with a half-smile, reaching over to ruffle the fur on his wolf hat. âSure I do,â I smiled, watching him smile. He looked a bit skeptical but was happier-lookinâ now, too.
âGood. Because when you wanna talk, Iâm always ready,â Westie finished with a grin, abruptly standing up and extending his hand to me. Takinâ it, I stood up with him. âWanna refill the water canteens?â he asked with a wink, handing me the empty receptacles.
I grinned and grabbed âem, takinâ off my right glove and exposinâ my hand. Bending down towards the snow, I stuck my hand in the white fluffly cold flakes, I felt the energy in âem, the energy I liked to use. I could feel it swirlinâ and dancinâ, all excited when it touched my hand.
I felt warm and fuzzy inside when the snow started to melt, and I held the canteen in my other hand, where the water flowed right into it, the cold energy flowinâ into me, and it tickled as it coursed up my arms. Giggling, I held up the water to Westie, while he smiled down at me.
When I finished toppinâ âem up, I stood and brushed off my now-dripping hand.
âI still donât see how you can just make snow and then get rid of it,â Westie said, eyes wide.
I shrugged, smiling. âItâs all made and taken away by the same energy. I just know how to manipulate it. Sorta like you do with all those techno whatcha-gadgets and metal bits!â
We took a few sips of the remaining water and started across the next path, working our way up a completely snow-covered slope that encircled the mountain. By workinâ our way up, weâd be able to maybe fly down by glidinâ the air currents with Westie in a harness I carried. Weâd done it a few times before, sorta like air-skiing. Westie really liked it, and I didnât mind at all. It was fun, and as long as the sky was clear, and the air was decent, it was perfectly safe.
We were making good time, and we could hear the junkos and finches chirpinâ away. A bit less than halfway up, Westie was discussinâ his next project: â... So, with Gauge and Trinkettâs help, Iâm hoping to get the next few email addresses up by next Thursday! That way some of the older kids can start taking some of the community college courses. We just found one over at--â
He was interrupted by a low rumble⌠and then a sudden, loud boominâ noise that set my teeth grinding. We both turned in sync to look up at the crest of one of the bluffs atop the mountain. At first we werenât given any sign of what was to come. I looked at Westie. He looked at me. His eyes were clouded with guarded concern, and a bit of confusion. What had just happenedâŚ?
Moments after the noise, the rumbling reached us. The ground began to shake. The stones on either side of us roiled and pitched, and we were both shakinâ and my knees started quaking. Soon enough, weâd grabbed onto each other for support. Fear rose up in my throat and my skin - for once - felt chilled.
Then, without a single warninâ... the shaking stopped. All was quiet. Even the birds had stopped singinâ. The only sign the quake had happened was the stones that still rolled and clattered down the sides of the cliffs. Iâd never felt anything like that. Westie and I exchanged glances. âI⌠I guess⌠i-itâs over, right?â I asked in a quiverinâ voice.
Westie slowly looked up the hill, golden eyes takinâ in what had happened. Ever so slowly, he shook his head. âI donât think so Drifter,â he murmured to me, nodding towards the top of the hill. A soft noise was pervadinâ my hearing and I wondered⌠I hoped⌠that it wasnât what I thought it was.
When he gestured for me to look again, I took a breath, heart skipping a beat as I beheld the sight. The clear crown of the mountain was no longer able to be seen. In its place, a white wall of impenetrable snow, ice, and rocks hurtled towards us from far above, blocking out even the sky with the sheer mass of it.
A warm hand entwined in mine. âItâs an avalanche,â he whispered, voice next to my ear.
For the first time ever, I heard despondency in my best friendâs voice. And I think that scared me more than what was cominâ down upon us.
Shattering the Symmetry (Idea)
You've been wandering by yourself for quite a while - ever since Remnant Bough, your best friend and closest confidante, left your two-man camp. You ask yourself why she left all the time. "It'll only be for a little while, Sym," she always told you, hugging your skinny frame tightly before she packed up her bowie knife, her rucksack, and then flew off into the wild blue yonder - quite literally.
She'd heard a rumor about a 100% human Eraser called Daniel. That he was alive. That he was undergoing reconstruction. You didn't really know what 'reconstruction' meant, and you never found out how Dover, as you called Remnant, heard about it either. But you trusted her, and you came to accept that she was going to leave regardless of what you wanted. So you sighed, accepted it, and set a rendezvous point for three months. And in the meantime? In the meantime, you were going on walkabout.Â
You really did understand her obsession, not so deep down. You knew Daniel and Remnant had been closer than even you and her had been. Remy loved him. And he had died in her arms - so she thought, anyway. You understood her reasons. Well, for example! If you heard that your own best friend, Locke, was back from the dead and back and kicking, you could bet your bottom dollar! You'd be after her in a heartbeat! Saddle the kangaroo and bounce off into the sunset, you'd be gone!
But that's not what happened. Now you're alone. Symmetry Harbinger, scourge of the Australian bush and king of the oceans is now alone and by all of himselves. All 9 of them. But not now. Now, you wish to be alone... But you can hear them in your head. You can always hear them. But you have a plan. You've decided to move on from Tennessee. You like the country state alright... but you miss your foster states of Nevada, Washington, and Arizona. You figure you'll visit a few old camping sites, remember how you first met some friendlies. Maybe see if you can track down that halfway house of sorts you'd heard about a few weeks back when you ran across a pair of Japanese twins with wings.
You'd first met them on the Californian coast. They were a few years younger than you, but you remember thinking they were nice 'uns - for ankle biters, at least. You'd directed them with your limited knowledge of the United States and sent them off. But that was a year ago. Now they were older - so were you - and you'd run 'cross them not too long ago. They had an updated story for you - a story about a house run by an ex-School worker where Avians and experiments of all kinds and genes were welcome. They even had a few humans! They had a polar bear! A cat! People of all ethnic backgrounds!

But still. You couldn't bring yourself to leave now. Not now. Oh, dear heavens above, no. You couldn't - not without at least visiting Locke's final... final burial. You have to. Her final resting place, you decide, is where you shall go while Remnant's away. Then perhaps you'll speak with her about the halfway house.
Yes, you say, you'll go to her grave. Maybe tell a few stories - for old's times sake, you understand - and say a prayer for her, plead with the Lord above that she went peacefully.
So you nod and head west. You head to Arizona. You're going back to New Zealand - it's been awhile, after all. That's where you'll head. Seven years. Seven years too long, you think. Seven years. And now you're finally going to do it - head down under, back to your homeland.Â
But, good heavens, you'll miss Remy. You'll miss the cultural vastness of America. But, wait, you tell yourself. It's not like you're going away forever! You'll be back! Maybe not immediately, but at least in 3 months! You have to -- for Remy. For Locke. For yourself.

Your name is Shatter Ender. You don't know anything about your past, and your memory is gone. All you remember is the face of one boy. Was he related to you? Was he a lover?Â
You don't know. You just have his face, your name, and a slip of paper with an address - 227 Palm Side Way, NZ
Where is that? You don't know. And you're lost. You're in a strange place with strange people - they all talk like you, but you don't know any of them. They ask if you're alright many times. A kind lady offered weeks ago to take you in for a bit, long as you need to stay, she intoned.Â
And Clara was nice - you really loved her! But... That's just the thing. You love her like a mother. And you remember something from your past: The people you love. They die. They get lost. They get hurt. You can't trust yourself anymore.
And you tried to tell Clara this. But she didn't listen. She adopted you into her foster care with her three children and husband. They were all so sweet people - kind, Southern, church-goin' people. Biscuits and gravy were a must at every meal. If you weren't 'fine, just fine' then something was severely wrong with you.
And that's another thing - the people. They're so friendly, just love you to pieces. They want you to go to the 'Watering Hole' as they call the local Community Pool all the time.
And you can't. Why? Because of the leathery bat wings that stick out of your back. They're near enormous. They aren't all that hard to hide, 'long as you got yourself a ncie warm hoodie. But lookee here - you've got another issue! It averages 99 degrees here in the South.Â
And wouldn't ya just call that a problem, now?
So you did what you had to do, after much deliberation: You ran away. You did of course leave a note for Clara - it tells of how much you loved her and to not worry herself overly much for you, because you'll be back, and you'll write often. You tell her you've a lead on who your parents are, and where they might be, and what your name is.
Of course... That's not exactly true. You don't. But that's what you tell her. You try not to think of her or Bobby or Joey or Lissa. But sometimes when you least expect it? Memories come back.
She used to call you Sherry. You remember that so clearly, it burns. Your favorite food was her cherry pie. You loved it so much, people had started to call you Cherry-Sherry, sometimes just Cherry.
You love how you would sometimes have movie nights. That was one of your favorite parts.Â
No, you have to stop, you tell yourself. You decide to go look after this street name you found. So, beginning from the grand ole state of Kentucky... You start out for what you hope is somewhere west. If you can make it to Wyoming... Maybe you can make it to this mysterious 'NZ?'
You can only hope and pray..

What neither of you know, is this: You will inevitably meet. You will inevitably travel with each other. And maybe, if you're lucky, through the journey, you will survive. You will make it.
And maybe - just maybe - you'll help each other in the process.
