I really have been on quite some hiatus from blogging and posting to socials. If you wondered why, this blog drops all the deets.
Trying to get a foot in the door of traditional publishing is a truly uphill battle, and it's not one I actually thought I'd struggle with. But I really have - it's truly a test of resilience. And moving from a novel series that had been my primary project for over seven years, to a totally new novel was a bigger leap than I anticipated.
This is a super personal and vulnerable one. Going into the Arts is really vocational, and it's a tough slog, which I've known from the beginning. Maybe by sharing my struggles, any of you also having a tough time on the creative path will feel less alone, and like you too will be able to get back up and continue. We're all in this together, even more-so than ever (looking at you AI).
Now, I'm on the other side of those particular peaks, and happily digging in for my next ascent! And I really hope any of you out there struggling will get through it ❤️🩹
It’s only fitting that with a revamped and relaunched website, I give you a bit of an update. Where do I even start? The journey to publica
I really want to finish editing this novel before the year ends. This is my fifth draft and after this, it’s ready for the querying trenches. I’ve been working on this novel since 2015, and I finally feel like it’s come together. I do want to have it beta-read first, but I will start the querying process while the book is being beta-read. Querying takes a lot of time, and many agents don’t even reply with their rejection (that can be frustrating, ngl), so I think I can safely do both simultaneously. To the best of my knowledge, the book is ready.
I haven’t queried a novel since probably 2018. I have a novel and a poetry collection independently published because those two were just too close to my heart and I wanted them to be published by myself. But it’s always been a dream goal to be traditionally published and see my books displayed inside a brick and mortar bookstore like Barnes & Noble. In 2022 it’s my main goal to get back to the querying trenches and hopefully emerge victorious with an agent. Not making actually getting an agent into a goal--it can get depressing if it doesn’t happen--but I’m definitely cranking up my efforts. So my goal will be to really feel that I’m giving it my all this time around. I think this book deserves it.
