11 (recovering from an illness) + u (sharing a bed) + 14 (âIâm going to take care of you, okay?â)Â
âSo, Iâm not, not sure if you remember, but I told you multiple times not to kiss me while I was sick,â Evan is trying to explain without smiling to the miserable lump currently peeking up at him through the mess of their several blankets on the bed. âso.. I hate to tell you this, but you kind of did this to yourself.âÂ
âSounds fake,â Jared croaks back, maturely. As he does. Followed right after by a coughing fit.
Evan waits until heâs done before walking up to the side of the bed, sitting down next to Jared. âDo youâ dâyou need anything?âÂ
Jared shakes his head, carefully pushing himself to sit up as well with a wince.Â
âOkay,â Evan frowns a little. He reaches out, gingerly plucking Jaredâs glasses from his face, before folding them up and leaning over to put them on the nightstand. âYou sure? You arenât hungry or anything?âÂ
âNo,â the other boy answers quietly, grabbing one of the blankets and pulling it around his shoulders. âmâjust cold. And tired.âÂ
Evan nods. He leans forward a little, putting a hand behind Jaredâs head to guide him forward enough for Evan to gently press his lips briefly to his forehead. âYou feel kinda warm, though.âÂ
âI didnât realize you were a thermometer.âÂ
When Evan pulls back, Jaredâs giving him a stupid, crooked grin.Â
 This boy.
To articulate that loving thought: âAlright, smartass, do you want me to go get a thermometer?âÂ
âNo,â Jared says, leaning his head back into the hand Evan still has there. ââSides, Iâm pretty sure we only have, like. A cooking thermometer.âÂ
âHmm. I donât think thatâd work.â
âSure it could. Just gotta..â Jared yawns quietly, eyes fluttering shut for a second when Evan gently plays with the hair on the back of his head. âlike. Jam it into my leg. Like an epi-pen.âÂ
âYeah, uh, no,â Evan says back with a quiet laugh, and Jared opens his eyes just enough to peer up at him, grinning dopily. âYouâre so weird.âÂ
Jared mumbles something incoherently, leaning forward enough to press his forehead into Evanâs shoulder. Evan lets him, easily, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and pressing another kiss to the top of his head.Â
Theyâre quiet for a few minutes - other than Jaredâs slightly stuffed breathing.
âDidnât you have plans today?â Jared mumbles, pulling away only enough for his words to not be muffled by Evanâs sweatshirt.Â
âI mean, yeah,â Evan said with a shrug, âbut Iâm probably going to - to hold off.âÂ
âWait, no,â Jared pulls more, brows knitted together. âIâIâll be okay if you go. I donât wantâ you donât have to stay here just âcuz Iâm sick, dude.âÂ
âI know,â Evan assures him with a small grin, shaking his head. âthe library will still be there tomorrow, Jare. Itâs fine.â
Despite his words, Jared still looks a little guilty. âAre you sure? Seriously, I canââÂ
âYes, Iâm positive,â Evan tugs him close again, and this time Jared sort of just melts compliantly into it. âIâm staying, Iâm going to take care of you, okay? Iâm notâ I want to. Promise. Especially since Iâm sort of the reason why youâre sick.âÂ
 Quiet. And then, feebly,
âEven though you told me not to kiss you.â
âEven though I told you not to kiss me,â Evan repeats with a giggle, rolling his eyes fondly. âBut - I mean, youâreâ you were probably going to get sick either way? We kind of live together, sâkinda hard for us to not be around each other.âÂ
Jared lifts his head again, grinning a little at him, and.
Yeah, okay, maybe Evan could understand why Jared claimed that he just couldnât not kiss him, if it was anything like this.Â
âStill - maybe you couldâve been less around me, though,â Evan comments instead, grinning back.Â
 âNah.âÂ
 ââNahâ?â
âSâcompletely unreasonable thing to ask from me.âÂ
Evan blinks, before rolling his eyes again with a quiet laugh. âYouâre ridiculous.âÂ
âIf you got me sick, then that means I canât get you sick again, right?â
 â..I mean, probably not?â
Jared tugs a little on Evanâs sweatshirt sleeves. âLay with me, then.âÂ
Again, Evan kind of just watches the other boy for a minute, before sighing, chuckling softly to himself as he pulled himself out of Jaredâs grasp to crawl over and actually lay on the bed with him. âAnd apparently I was being the baby when I was sick,â he teases, and Jared lightly kicks Evanâs leg with one of his own.Â
âMâsick, asshole. You canât be mean to me.âÂ
 âOkay.âÂ
Evan shifts so heâs lying on his side, and Jared flops back down onto the bed too, facing him.Â
âHi,â Jared stage-whispers, and despite himself Evan laughs again.Â
âHello.â Itâs quite unfortunate that Evan canât blame the flush on his own face from fever.Â
Jared scoots a little closer to him, and knowingly Evan opens his arms enough for the other boy to plant himself pressed to Evan as much as he could be. He rests his head on Evanâs shoulder, and Evanâs hand returns to idly playing with his messy hair.Â
âNap?â Jared quietly requests into Evanâs sweatshirt, and Evan hums in response, his eyes having already slid shut.Â
 âFor a little while, yeah.âÂ
They open again, though, because he feels Jaredâs head move so heâs looking up at Evan.Â
âLove you,â Jared tells him quietly after a moment. And.
Thatâs still kind of new for them.Â
Or thatâs what Evan tells himself, anyway, when those two words make his heart do way too much in his chest.Â
âI love you, too,â he says just as quietly, glancing down, brushing some of Jaredâs hair off his forehead. âGet some rest, Jare.âÂ
Shifting again, Jared hums affirmatively, closing his eyes. Evan thinks he mightâve noticed the way his heart skipped, because he puts one of his hands there, on his chest right above it.Â
They fall asleep for much longer than âa little whileâ, unsurprisingly to either of them.
